🔧 Cabin Air Filter - Replacement

The cabin air filter on your Sentra traps dust, pollen, and debris before air comes into the cabin. Replacing it restores HVAC airflow and helps keep the air inside cleaner.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition off before starting.
  • Keep the glove box supported so it does not drop suddenly.
  • Do not force the filter cover or glove box stops; the plastic tabs can break.
  • No battery disconnect is required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Trim tool or small flat-blade screwdriver
  • Flashlight
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the ignition off.
  • Open the glove box and clear out anything inside.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open and empty the glove box

  • Open the glove box fully and remove all items.
  • Use your hands to lower the glove box carefully.
  • Work slowly to avoid broken tabs.

Step 2: Release the glove box stops

  • Use your hands, or a trim tool or small flat-blade screwdriver if needed, to gently push the glove box side stops inward.
  • Let the glove box lower down until it hangs open.

Step 3: Remove the cabin filter cover

  • Locate the rectangular filter access cover behind the glove box.
  • Use your hands to release the retaining tabs and remove the cover.

Step 4: Remove the old filter

  • Slide the old filter straight out by hand.
  • Note the airflow direction arrow on the old filter before removing it.

Step 5: Install the new filter

  • Use the flashlight if needed to see the filter slot clearly.
  • Install the new filter in the same direction as the airflow arrow marked on the housing.
  • Push it in fully until it seats evenly.

Step 6: Reinstall the cover and glove box

  • Reinstall the filter cover by hand until the tabs snap into place.
  • Lift the glove box back up and snap the side stops back into position.
  • Close the glove box and make sure it opens and closes normally.

✅ After Repair

  • Turn the blower on and confirm normal airflow.
  • Check for any rattles from the glove box area.
  • If airflow is still weak, recheck the filter direction and seating.
