š Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Move the front passenger seat back to give yourself room.
- Tip: Empty the glove box first.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and clear the glove box
- Open the glove box fully and remove anything inside.
- Use a flashlight to look at the right side of the glove box area for a small ādamperā arm (a little strap that slows the glove box).
Step 2: Lower the glove box
- If your Durango has a damper arm, gently pop it off its peg by hand or with a plastic trim tool (non-marring).
- Push inward on both sides of the glove box (by hand) to clear the side stops, then let the glove box swing downward.
- Tip: Push one side at a time if tight.
Step 3: Remove the cabin filter access door
- Behind the glove box, find the rectangular cabin filter cover.
- Release the locking tabs by hand (or gently with a plastic trim tool (non-marring)) and remove the cover.
Step 4: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Slide the filter straight out.
- Use the flashlight to note the airflow arrow direction printed on the old filter frame.
Step 5: Install the new cabin air filter
- Install the new filter in the same orientation as the old one (match the airflow arrow direction).
- Make sure it slides in evenly and seats fully (no bending or bunching).
- Wear nitrile gloves if you have allergies or the old filter is dusty.
Step 6: Reassemble the glove box
- Reinstall the filter cover until the tabs click into place.
- Lift the glove box back up and push the sides inward again to pass the stops and close normally.
- Reattach the glove box damper arm (if equipped) by pressing it back onto its peg by hand.

- Start the engine and run the fan at all speeds to confirm good airflow and no rattles.
- Switch between A/C and heat to confirm normal operation.
- Tip: Musty smell may fade after a few drives.
