🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Empty and open the glove box
- Remove items from the glove box so nothing falls out.
- Open the glove box fully.
- Use a flashlight to locate the small damper arm (a little shock/strap that slows the glove box).
Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper
- On the right side, gently pull the damper arm off its pin by hand while using the nitrile gloves for grip.
- Tip: Pull straight outward, not downward.
Step 3: Release the glove box stops
- With the glove box open, press in on the glove box sides (left and right) to clear the built-in stop tabs.
- Let the glove box swing down slowly.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter cover
- Behind the glove box, find the rectangular cabin filter access door.
- Press the side tabs and pull the cover straight off by hand while using the nitrile gloves.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Slide the old filter straight out.
- Use the flashlight to check how the airflow arrow is oriented (usually points downward toward the blower).
- Tip: Keep the dirty side facing up.
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Insert the new filter in the same direction as the old one, matching the airflow arrow.
- Push it in evenly so it doesn’t fold or crush.
Step 7: Reinstall cover and glove box
- Reinstall the cabin filter cover by pushing until the tabs click into place.
- Lift the glove box back up and press the sides inward again to get past the stop tabs.
- Reconnect the damper arm to its pin on the right side by pushing it on by hand.
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and run the blower on all speeds to confirm airflow is strong and noise-free.
- Switch between fresh air and recirculation to confirm normal HVAC operation.
- If you hear a ticking/rattling, recheck that the filter is fully seated and the cover is clipped in.
