⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition off before starting.
  • Make sure the glove box is empty so it can drop down safely.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this repair.
  • Work gently to avoid breaking plastic clips.

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Remove any items from the glove box.
  • Open the glove box fully before starting.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open and support the glove box

  • Open the glove box and empty it completely.
  • Gently press in on both sides of the glove box using your hands so the stops clear the dashboard opening.
  • Let the glove box swing down slowly.

Step 2: Remove the filter cover

  • Look behind the glove box for the cabin filter access cover.
  • Use a trim removal tool if needed to carefully release the cover tabs.
  • Remove the cover and set it aside.
  • Keep track of the clip orientation.

Step 3: Remove the old cabin air filter

  • Slide the old filter straight out by hand.
  • Note the airflow arrow direction printed on the filter before removing it.
  • If the filter is dirty, hold it upright to avoid spilling debris.

Step 4: Install the new cabin air filter

  • Insert the new cabin air filter in the same direction as the old one.
  • Make sure the airflow arrow points the correct way.
  • Push the filter in fully so it sits flat.

Step 5: Reinstall the cover and glove box

  • Reinstall the filter cover by hand until it clicks into place.
  • Lift the glove box back up.
  • Press the sides inward again if needed and guide the stops back into place.
  • Make sure the glove box opens and closes smoothly.

✅ After Repair

  • Start the blower fan and check airflow.
  • Listen for rattles or loose panels around the glove box.
  • If airflow still seems weak, verify the filter is seated correctly.
  • Replace the cabin air filter every 12,000-15,000 miles or sooner in dusty areas.
