🔧 Cabin Air Filter - Replacement

The cabin air filter on your Tacoma sits behind the glove box. Replacing it restores airflow and helps reduce dust, pollen, and odors inside the cab.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition off before starting.
  • Open the glove box slowly so it does not drop and crack.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this job.
  • Work gently; the glove box stops are easy to damage.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • No tools required
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Cabin air filter - Qty: 1

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Switch the ignition off.
  • Open the passenger door so you have room to work.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the glove box

  • Open the glove box fully.
  • Remove any items inside so nothing falls out.

Step 2: Release the glove box stops

  • Use your hands to gently squeeze the sides of the glove box inward.
  • This lets the stops clear the opening so the glove box can drop down.
  • Do not force it.

Step 3: Remove the filter cover

  • Look behind the glove box for the rectangular cabin filter cover.
  • Use your hands to unclip and remove the cover.

Step 4: Remove the old filter

  • Pull the old cabin air filter straight out by hand.
  • Note the airflow arrow on the old filter before removing it.

Step 5: Install the new filter

  • Insert the new cabin air filter in the same direction as the airflow arrow.
  • Make sure it sits flat and fully inside the housing.

Step 6: Reinstall the cover and glove box

  • Snap the filter cover back into place by hand.
  • Lift the glove box back up and push the sides inward if needed to clear the stops.
  • Close the glove box and check that it opens and closes normally.

✅ After Repair

  • Turn the fan on and check for strong airflow.
  • Listen for any rattles from the glove box area.
  • If airflow is still weak, recheck the filter direction and seating.
