🔧 Cabin Air Filter - Replacement

The cabin air filter on your Sequoia sits behind the glove box. Replacing it restores airflow and helps reduce dust, pollen, and odors in the HVAC system.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the ignition off before starting.
  • Do not force the glove box hinges or side stops; the plastic can crack.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Trim panel tool
  • Flashlight
  • Safety glasses
  • Gloves

📋 Before You Begin

  • Turn the ignition off and remove the key or keep the fob away from the vehicle.
  • Open the glove box and clear out any items inside.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the glove box fully

  • Use your hand to lower the glove box and let it open all the way.
  • Work gently to avoid breaking the stops.

Step 2: Release the glove box dampener and side stops

  • Use your fingers to unhook the glove box damper arm from the passenger side.
  • Press inward on both sides of the glove box to clear the side stops and let the box hang down farther.

Step 3: Remove the cabin filter cover

  • Locate the rectangular filter door behind the glove box.
  • Use your fingers to unclip the cover and remove it.

Step 4: Remove the old cabin air filter

  • Slide the old filter out carefully.
  • Note the airflow arrow on the filter before removing it.
  • Match the arrow direction on the new filter.

Step 5: Install the new cabin air filter

  • Use your hands to insert the new filter with the airflow arrow pointing the same direction as the old one.
  • Make sure the filter sits flat and fully seats in the housing.

Step 6: Reinstall the cover and glove box

  • Snap the filter cover back into place by hand.
  • Lift the glove box back into position.
  • Reattach the side stops and reconnect the damper arm.

✅ After Repair

  • Start the vehicle and turn on the blower fan to confirm normal airflow.
  • Check that the glove box opens and closes smoothly.
  • If airflow still seems weak, make sure the filter is fully seated and installed in the correct direction.
