- 📦 Empty the glove box so nothing falls out when it drops down.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and clear the glove box
- Open the glove box fully and remove everything inside.
- If there’s a small “shelf” damper arm on the right side, locate it now.
Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper (right side)
- Use a plastic trim tool to gently pry the damper arm off its pin.
- Go slow—plastic clips can snap.
- Definition: The damper is the small arm that lets the glove box open slowly.
Step 3: Drop the glove box down
- With the glove box open, use your hands to push the glove box sides inward (left and right) to clear the side stops.
- Let the glove box swing downward carefully until it hangs low and you can see the filter access area behind it.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter cover
- Find the rectangular cabin filter cover behind the glove box.
- Release the tabs by hand; if it’s tight, use a plastic trim tool to help press the tab while pulling the cover off.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Slide the old filter straight out by hand.
- If leaves/dust fall out, wipe the housing with a dry cloth (no tools required).
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Check the airflow direction arrow on the filter frame.
- Install it in the same direction as the arrow shown on the housing/old filter (usually “AIR FLOW” pointing downward in this setup).
- If it won’t slide in, don’t force it.
Step 7: Reinstall cover and glove box
- Snap the filter cover back on by hand until the tabs click.
- Lift the glove box back up and push the sides inward again to pass the stops.
- Reconnect the damper arm on the right side by pressing it back onto its pin.
- If any screws were present on your glove box (some setups vary), reinstall them using a Phillips screwdriver #2 snug (do not overtighten).
✅ After Repair
- 🌬️ Start the vehicle and run the blower on medium/high to confirm strong airflow.
- 👃 Check for reduced dust/odor and listen for any glove box rattles (means a tab or damper isn’t seated).
