- Park on a level surface and set the parking brake.
- Turn the ignition off and remove the key if equipped.
- Open the glove box and clear out the contents.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the glove box fully
- Open the glove box and lower it all the way down.
- If needed, use your hands to gently squeeze the sides of the glove box inward so it can drop past the stops.
- Go slow to avoid breaking the tabs.
Step 2: Remove the glove box damper and stop points
- Use your hands to unhook the glove box damper strap, if equipped.
- Let the glove box hang down enough to expose the filter cover behind it.
Step 3: Remove the cabin filter cover
- Locate the rectangular cabin filter access cover behind the glove box.
- Use a trim panel tool to release the cover clips if they are tight.
- Remove the cover and set it aside.
Step 4: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Pull the old filter straight out by hand.
- Note the airflow arrow direction printed on the filter frame.
- Watch for leaves and dust inside the housing.
Step 5: Install the new cabin air filter
- Insert the new filter in the same direction as the old one.
- Make sure the airflow arrow points the same way as the removed filter.
- Seat the filter fully and evenly in the housing.
Step 6: Reinstall the filter cover and glove box
- Reinstall the cabin filter cover until it clicks into place.
- Raise the glove box back into position.
- Reconnect the glove box damper and side stops by hand.
- Close the glove box and confirm it opens and closes normally.
