šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Empty and open the glove box
- Open the glove box and remove anything inside so nothing falls out.
- Use a flashlight to look along the right side of the glove box for a small ādamperā arm (a little strut that slows the glove box). A damper is a small support that controls how fast something moves.
Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper
- Use a plastic trim removal tool to gently pry the damper arm off its pin (it usually pops off with light pressure).
- Let the damper hang ŃŠ²Š¾Š±Š¾Š“ly (donāt yank it).
Step 3: Release the glove box stops and lower the glove box
- With the glove box open, push in on the glove box side walls (left and right) with your hands to clear the āstopsā so the glove box can swing down further.
- Lower the glove box downward to expose the cabin filter access area behind it.
- Tip: Push one side in at a time if tight.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter cover
- Locate the rectangular cabin filter housing cover behind the glove box.
- Use your fingers or a plastic trim removal tool to press the side tabs and pull the cover straight off.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Slide the old filter straight out.
- Use a flashlight to check for leaves/debris in the housing. Pull debris out by hand with nitrile gloves.
- Note the airflow direction marking (often an arrow) on the old filter so the new one goes in the same way.
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Insert the new filter into the slot, keeping the airflow arrow pointing the correct direction (match the arrow on the housing/old filter).
- Make sure it slides in evenly and isnāt bent or folded.
Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box
- Reinstall the cabin filter cover until the tabs click into place.
- Lift the glove box back up and push the sides in again to get the stops past the opening, then let it settle into normal position.
- Reconnect the damper arm to its pin (press it on by hand until it snaps in).
ā After Repair
- Start the car and run the fan at different speeds to confirm normal airflow and no rattles.
- Switch between fresh air and recirculate to ensure the glove box area stays quiet (no tapping from the damper).
- Tip: Replace yearly or every 12k-15k miles.
