- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before working near the passenger-side dash.
- ⚠️ Don’t force the glove box—plastic tabs can snap if bent too far.

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Turn the HVAC system OFF so loose dust doesn’t get pulled in.
- Tip: Empty the glove box first.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Clear access at the glove box
- Open the glove box and remove all items.
- Use a flashlight to look along the right side of the glove box for the soft-close “damper” arm (a small rod/strap that slows the glove box). The damper arm is what keeps it from dropping fast.
Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper arm
- On the right side, gently unclip the damper arm from the glove box.
- If it’s tight, use a plastic trim tool (optional) to help pop it off without gouging plastic.
Step 3: Release the glove box stops
- With the glove box open, use your hands to press the left and right sides of the glove box inward to clear the built-in “stops.”
- Once the stops clear, lower the glove box down toward the floor.
- Tip: Squeeze one side at a time.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter cover
- Behind the lowered glove box, find the rectangular cabin filter housing cover.
- Press the cover’s side tabs and pull the cover straight off by hand.
- Use a flashlight to confirm the cover tabs are fully released before pulling.
Step 5: Remove the old filter and tray
- Slide the filter tray straight out toward you (use nitrile gloves; it can be dusty).
- Remove the old filter from the tray and note the airflow marking on the filter (usually labeled “AIR FLOW”).
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Install the new filter into the tray in the same direction as the old one.
- Make sure the “AIR FLOW” arrow points the correct direction (typically downward in this housing). If your new filter says “UP,” follow that marking.
- Slide the tray back into the housing until it seats fully.
Step 7: Reassemble the glove box
- Reinstall the cabin filter cover by pushing it on until both tabs click.
- Lift the glove box back up and press the sides inward again to get the stops back past the opening.
- Reconnect the damper arm on the right side until it snaps into place.
âś… After Repair
- Start the car and run the blower on medium-high for 30 seconds to confirm strong airflow and no rattles.
- Switch between vent/floor/defrost modes to ensure nothing is rubbing behind the glove box.
- Tip: If you hear tapping, recheck the cover tabs.
