🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Locate and inspect the battery

• Open the hood and find the battery on the driver side of the engine bay.
• Check for corrosion, swelling, or loose cables before removal.
• Take a quick photo of cable routing.

Step 2: Disconnect the negative cable

• Use a 10mm wrench to loosen the negative terminal clamp.
• Remove the negative cable and tuck it aside so it cannot touch the battery.

Step 3: Disconnect the positive cable

• Use a 10mm wrench to loosen the positive terminal clamp.
• Remove the positive cable and keep it away from metal parts.

Step 4: Remove the battery hold-down

• Use a 13mm socket, ratchet, and short extension to remove the battery hold-down bolt.
• Lift out the hold-down bracket and set it aside.

Step 5: Remove the old battery

• Lift the battery straight up using a battery carry strap if needed.
• Set the old battery on a flat surface and keep it upright.
• Do not tip a lead-acid battery.

Step 6: Clean the tray and terminals

• Use a battery terminal brush to clean the cable ends if needed.
• Clean the battery tray and hold-down area before installing the new battery.

Step 7: Install the new battery

• Place the new battery in the tray with the terminals in the same orientation as the old one.
• Install the hold-down bracket and tighten it with a 13mm socket.
• Torque to 20 Nm (15 ft-lbs).

Step 8: Reconnect the cables

• Install the positive cable first and tighten it with a 10mm wrench.
• Install the negative cable last and tighten it with a 10mm wrench.
• Torque terminal clamps to snug only; do not overtighten.
• Reconnect positive first, negative last.

Step 9: Protect the terminals

• Apply battery terminal protector spray to both terminals.
• Make sure the clamps are fully seated and cannot twist by hand.
