🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Shut the vehicle down
- Turn the ignition off completely and remove the key/fob from the car.
- Wait a few minutes so modules go to sleep.
Step 2: Disconnect the negative cable
- Use the 10mm wrench to loosen the negative terminal clamp.
- Lift the negative cable off the battery and move it aside so it cannot spring back.
- Negative first, always.
Step 3: Disconnect the positive cable
- Use the 10mm wrench to loosen the positive terminal clamp.
- Remove the positive cable and keep it clear of the battery.
Step 4: Remove the hold-down
- Use the 13mm socket, ratchet, and short extension to remove the battery hold-down fastener.
- Remove the hold-down bracket and set it aside.
Step 5: Lift out the old battery
- Lift the battery straight up and out of the tray. Batteries are heavy, so use both hands.
- If it sticks, wiggle it gently. Do not pry on the terminals.
Step 6: Clean the tray and terminals
- Use a battery brush to clean corrosion from the cable ends and tray area.
- Wipe the tray dry and check that the vent area is clear.
Step 7: Install the new battery
- Set the new battery in the tray in the same orientation as the old one.
- Make sure it sits flat and the terminals line up correctly.
Step 8: Reinstall the hold-down
- Install the hold-down bracket using the 13mm socket and ratchet.
- Torque to 20 Nm (15 ft-lbs).
Step 9: Reconnect the positive cable
- Use the 10mm wrench to tighten the positive terminal clamp.
- Torque to 8 Nm (71 in-lbs).
- Apply a light coat of battery terminal protector spray.
Step 10: Reconnect the negative cable
- Use the 10mm wrench to tighten the negative terminal clamp.
- Torque to 8 Nm (71 in-lbs).
- Apply a light coat of battery terminal protector spray.

- Start the engine and confirm it cranks normally.
- Check for warning lights on the dash.
- Reset the clock and radio presets if needed.
- If power windows act odd, hold each switch fully down and then fully up to relearn the stops.
