š§ Escalade - Battery Replacement
Your Escaladeās battery provides power to start the engine and run all electronics. Replacing it is straightforward, but you must disconnect the cables in the correct order to avoid sparks and protect the vehicleās electronics.

- ā ļø Turn everything OFF and remove the key/fob from the vehicle before starting.
- ā ļø Always disconnect the negative (-) cable first and reconnect it last to reduce spark risk.
- ā ļø Do not short the battery with tools; keep metal tools away from both terminals at once.
- ā ļø Your Escalade has a battery current sensor on/near the negative cableādo not pry on it or twist it.
- ā ļø Wear gloves and safety glasses; batteries can vent corrosive gas and contain acid.

š Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Open the hood and keep it securely supported.
- Make sure all lights are off and doors are closed so modules āgo to sleepā for a couple minutes before you disconnect the battery.
- Tip: Take a quick photo of cable routing.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the battery
- Open the hood and locate the battery at the front of the engine bay.
- Remove any plastic battery cover/air deflector as needed using a trim clip tool.
Step 2: Disconnect the negative (-) cable
- Use a 10mm socket and 3/8" ratchet to loosen the negative terminal clamp bolt.
- Lift the negative cable off the battery post and move it aside so it cannot spring back onto the terminal.
- Tip: Tuck it behind a hose for separation.
Step 3: Disconnect the positive (+) cable
- Use a 10mm socket and 3/8" ratchet to loosen the positive terminal clamp bolt.
- Remove the positive cable and position it safely away from the battery.
Step 4: Remove the battery hold-down
- Locate the battery hold-down at the base of the battery.
- Use a 13mm socket, 3/8" ratchet, and 3/8" extension (3"-6") to remove the hold-down bolt(s).
- Lift the hold-down bracket out and set it aside.
Step 5: Remove the old battery
- Lift the battery straight up and out (itās heavyāuse your legs, not your back).
- Set it on the ground upright.
Step 6: Clean the terminals and tray
- Inspect the tray for corrosion and debris; wipe it clean.
- Use a battery terminal brush to lightly clean the inside of the cable clamps if you see corrosion.
- Install battery terminal corrosion pads onto the battery posts (one per post) if youāre using them.
Step 7: Install the new battery
- Place the new battery into the tray in the same orientation as the old one.
- Reinstall the hold-down bracket and tighten with a 13mm socket and 3/8" ratchet.
- Torque to 15 Nm (11 ft-lbs) using a torque wrench.
Step 8: Reconnect the cables (positive first)
- Install the positive (+) cable first and tighten with a 10mm socket.
- Torque to 10 Nm (89 in-lbs) using a torque wrench.
- Install the negative (-) cable last and tighten with a 10mm socket.
- Torque to 10 Nm (89 in-lbs) using a torque wrench.
- Lightly spray terminals with battery terminal protectant spray.
Step 9: Reinstall covers
- Reinstall any battery cover/deflector you removed using the trim clip tool.
- Double-check that cables are routed like before and not rubbing on sharp edges.
ā After Repair
- Start the engine and confirm it cranks normally and runs smoothly.
- Check that the battery warning light is off.
- Test headlights, power windows, radio, and HVAC.
- If one-touch windows donāt work, cycle each window fully down and fully up to relearn.
- Re-set the clock/radio presets if needed.
