šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Power down the vehicle
- Turn the ignition OFF and remove the fob from the vehicle.
- Wait 3-5 minutes so the computers go to sleep.
Step 2: Access the battery (common location: under passenger seat)
- Slide the passenger seat all the way forward and raise it up if itās power adjustable.
- Use a trim panel tool to remove the battery access cover (pry gently).
- If your battery is under the hood instead, open the hood and locate the battery on the passenger side area.
Step 3: Disconnect the negative (-) terminal first
- Use a 10mm socket and 1/4" ratchet to loosen the negative (-) terminal clamp.
- Lift the clamp off the battery post and tuck it aside so it canāt spring back.
- The negative cable often has a sensorādonāt pry on it.

- Use a 13mm socket, 3/8" ratchet, and 6" socket extension to remove the hold-down bolt(s) and bracket.
- Set the bracket and bolt(s) aside where they wonāt get lost.
- Torque to OEM spec
Step 6: Disconnect the battery vent tube (if equipped)
- Look for a small vent hose on the side of the battery.
- Pull it off gently by hand (use a shop rag for grip if needed).
Step 7: Remove and replace the battery
- Lift the old battery out carefully. Batteries are heavyāuse safe lifting posture.
- Place the new battery in the tray in the same orientation.
- Reconnect the vent tube to the new battery (if your old one had it).
Step 8: Reinstall hold-down, then reconnect terminals (positive first)
- Reinstall the hold-down bracket using a 13mm socket and 3/8" ratchet.
- Reconnect positive (+) first using a 10mm socket.
- Reconnect negative (-) last using a 10mm socket.
- Torque to OEM spec
- Use a battery terminal brush if the clamps/posts are crusty before tightening.
Step 9: Protect terminals and reassemble covers
- Install battery terminal anti-corrosion pads (if using) and apply battery terminal protectant spray.
- Reinstall the battery cover using the trim panel tool (press clips back in).

- Start the engine and confirm it cranks strongly.
- Check for warning lights. If you see battery/charging messages, shut it off and recheck terminal tightness.
- Reset clock and radio presets if needed.
