🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Shut the truck down
- Turn the ignition off completely and remove the key or keep the key fob away from the truck.

Step 2: Disconnect the negative cable
- Use a 10mm wrench to loosen the negative battery terminal clamp.
- Lift the negative cable off the battery and move it aside so it cannot spring back.

- Remove the cable and keep it clear of the battery.
Step 4: Remove the battery hold-down
- Use a 13mm socket and ratchet to remove the battery hold-down bolt.
- Remove the hold-down bracket and set the hardware aside.
- Torque on reassembly: 18 Nm (13 ft-lbs)
Step 5: Remove the battery
- Use the battery strap or lifting handle to lift the battery straight up and out.
- Battery is heavy. Keep your back straight.
Step 6: Clean the tray and terminals
- Use a wire brush to clean corrosion from the tray and cable ends.
- Make sure the hold-down area is dry and free of debris.
Step 7: Install the new battery
- Place the new battery in the tray with the terminals in the same orientation as the old one.
- Install the hold-down bracket and tighten it with the 13mm socket.
- Torque to 18 Nm (13 ft-lbs)
Step 8: Reconnect the positive cable
- Install the positive cable first and tighten it with the 10mm wrench.
- Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs)
Step 9: Reconnect the negative cable
- Install the negative cable last and tighten it with the 10mm wrench.
- Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs)
Step 10: Finish up
- Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the terminal connections if desired.
- Close the hood and start the truck.
