🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Locate the battery
- Open the hood and find the battery on the driver-side front area of the engine bay.
- Check for any loose items or covers around it before starting.
Step 2: Disconnect the negative cable
- Use the 10mm wrench to loosen the negative terminal clamp.
- Remove the negative cable from the battery and set it aside so it cannot touch the terminal.
Step 3: Disconnect the positive cable
- Use the 10mm wrench to loosen the positive terminal clamp.
- Remove the positive cable and keep it clear of the battery.
Step 4: Remove the battery hold-down
- Use the 13mm socket and ratchet to remove the battery hold-down clamp or bracket.
- Lift the hold-down hardware out and keep track of all bolts and parts.
Step 5: Remove the old battery
- Lift the battery straight up and out of the tray.
- Use both hands; batteries are heavier than they look.
Step 6: Clean the tray and terminals
- Use the battery terminal brush to clean any corrosion from the cable ends.
- Clean the battery tray and hold-down hardware if needed.
Step 7: Install the new battery
- Set the new battery into the tray in the same orientation as the old one.
- Install the hold-down bracket using the 13mm socket.
- Torque to 18 Nm (13 ft-lbs) for the battery hold-down.
Step 8: Reconnect the battery cables
- Connect the positive cable first and tighten it with the 10mm wrench.
- Connect the negative cable second and tighten it with the 10mm wrench.
- Torque to snug, then an additional small turn by hand only. Do not overtighten.
Step 9: Apply protection and close up
- Apply battery terminal protectant to the terminals if desired.
- Make sure both clamps are fully seated and secure.
- Close the hood.
