🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Disconnect the negative terminal

• Use a 10mm wrench to loosen the negative terminal clamp.
• Lift the negative cable off the battery post and move it aside.
• Do not let the wrench touch the body.

Step 2: Disconnect the positive terminal

• Use a 10mm wrench to loosen the positive terminal clamp.
• Lift the positive cable off the battery post and set it aside.
• Check for a vent hose and disconnect it if equipped.

Step 3: Remove the battery hold-down

• Use a 10mm socket and ratchet to remove the battery hold-down bracket.
• Set the bracket and hardware aside for reuse if in good condition.

Step 4: Remove the old battery

• Lift the battery straight up and out of the tray. A battery is heavy, so use both hands.
• Place it on a stable surface away from metal tools.

Step 5: Clean the tray and terminals

• Use a battery brush to clean corrosion from the cable ends and tray area.
• Make sure the terminal clamps are clean and dry before installation.

Step 6: Install the new battery

• Set the new battery into the tray with the terminals in the same position as the old one.
• Reinstall the hold-down bracket using the 10mm socket and ratchet.
• Tighten the hold-down securely; do not overtighten.

Step 7: Reconnect the terminals

• Install the positive cable first and tighten it with a 10mm wrench.
• Install the negative cable last and tighten it with a 10mm wrench.
• Torque to snug fit only; battery terminal nuts are not typically torqued to a high value.
• Apply battery terminal protector spray if desired.

Step 8: Final check

• Make sure both terminals are fully seated and cannot rotate by hand.
• Close the hood and start the engine.
