🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the hood and find the battery
- Use the hood release inside the car, then secure the hood with the prop rod.
- The battery is in the engine bay on the left side.
- Take a quick photo first.
Step 2: Disconnect the negative terminal
- Use a 10mm wrench to loosen the negative terminal nut.
- Lift the negative cable off the battery post and move it aside so it cannot spring back.
Step 3: Disconnect the positive terminal
- Use a 10mm wrench to loosen the positive terminal nut.
- Lift the positive cable off the battery post and set it aside.
Step 4: Remove the battery hold-down
- Use a 10mm socket and ratchet to remove the hold-down bracket or clamp.
- Set the hardware aside in order so it is easy to reinstall.
Step 5: Lift out the old battery
- Carefully lift the battery straight up and out of the tray.
- Battery is heavy, so use both hands and keep it level.
- Bend with your knees.
Step 6: Clean the tray and cable ends
- Check the battery tray for dirt or corrosion and clean it if needed.
- If the cable ends have corrosion, clean them before installing the new battery.
Step 7: Install the new battery
- Place the new battery in the tray with the terminals in the same orientation as the old one.
- Install the hold-down bracket and tighten it with the 10mm socket.
- Torque to 9 Nm (80 in-lbs).
Step 8: Reconnect the terminals
- Install the positive cable first and tighten it with a 10mm wrench.
- Install the negative cable last and tighten it with a 10mm wrench.
- Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs).
- Spray a light coat of battery terminal protectant on the connections.

- Start the engine and confirm it cranks normally.
- Check that the dash lights and accessories work properly.
- If the clock or radio presets were lost, reset them.
- Make sure the battery is solidly mounted and does not move.
