🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the battery area

• Open the hood and locate the battery on the left side of the engine bay.
• Look for the battery hold-down clamp and the two cable terminals.
• Take a quick photo before removing anything.

Step 2: Disconnect the negative cable

• Use a 10mm socket and ratchet to loosen the negative terminal nut.
• Lift the negative cable off the battery post and tuck it aside so it cannot spring back.

Step 3: Disconnect the positive cable

• Use the 10mm socket to loosen the positive terminal nut.
• Remove the positive cable and keep it away from metal parts.

Step 4: Remove the battery hold-down

• Use a 10mm socket to remove the battery hold-down bolt or clamp.
• Set the clamp and hardware aside where you will not lose them.

Step 5: Lift out the old battery

• Lift the battery straight up and out of the tray using both hands or a battery strap.
• Be careful. Batteries are heavy.

Step 6: Clean the tray and terminals

• Use a battery terminal brush to clean corrosion from the cable ends.
• Wipe dirt and rust from the battery tray.
• Clean terminals help the new battery last longer.

Step 7: Install the new battery

• Place the new battery in the tray with the terminals in the same orientation as the old one.
• Install the hold-down clamp and tighten it with a 10mm socket.
• Torque to 5-7 Nm (44-62 in-lbs).

Step 8: Reconnect the positive cable

• Push the positive cable onto the positive post.
• Tighten the nut with a 10mm socket.
• Torque to 4-6 Nm (35-53 in-lbs).

Step 9: Reconnect the negative cable

• Push the negative cable onto the negative post.
• Tighten the nut with a 10mm socket.
• Torque to 4-6 Nm (35-53 in-lbs).

Step 10: Final check

• Make sure both terminals are tight and cannot move by hand.
• Close the hood and start the engine.
