📋 Before You Begin

• Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
• Open the hood and keep the key far from the vehicle.
• Disconnect the battery: use a 10mm socket to remove the negative terminal and isolate it so it can’t spring back.
• Tip: Take a photo of the belt routing.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Raise the front and remove the lower engine cover

• Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
• Lift the front with a floor jack and support it with jack stands at the proper lift points.
• Remove the belly pan/undertray fasteners using a Torx T25 bit and Torx T30 bit, then set the cover aside.

Step 2: Remove the air intake ducting (for working room)

• Loosen hose clamps using a flat-blade screwdriver.
• Release any airbox/intake clips using a trim clip removal tool.
• Move the intake pieces aside so you can reach the alternator and belt area.

Step 3: Release the serpentine belt tension

• Put a 16mm socket and 3/8" ratchet (or serpentine belt tool) on the belt tensioner.
• Rotate the tensioner to relieve belt tension, then slip the belt off the alternator pulley.
• Slowly release the tensioner back to its resting position (don’t let it snap back).

Step 4: Disconnect alternator electrical connections

• Unplug the alternator’s small control connector by releasing the lock tab (use a flat-blade screwdriver gently if needed).
• Remove the protective cap over the main charging stud.
• Remove the B+ cable nut using a 13mm socket, then move the cable aside so it can’t touch metal.
• Torque to 15 Nm (11 ft-lbs) for the B+ cable nut during reassembly.

Step 5: Unbolt and remove the alternator

• Support the alternator by hand.
• Remove the alternator mounting bolts using a 13mm socket, ratchet, and extension.
• Work the alternator out of the bracket and out of the engine bay (you may need to rotate it to clear hoses/wiring).
• Torque to 45 Nm (33 ft-lbs) for the alternator mounting bolts during reassembly.

Step 6: Install the new alternator

• Position the new alternator in the bracket by hand.
• Start mounting bolts by hand first (prevents cross-threading), then tighten with a 13mm socket.
• Final-tighten with a torque wrench: Torque to 45 Nm (33 ft-lbs).

Step 7: Reconnect wiring

• Install the main B+ cable and tighten with a 13mm socket, then torque: Torque to 15 Nm (11 ft-lbs).
• Reinstall the protective cap over the charging stud.
• Reconnect the small control connector until it clicks.

Step 8: Reinstall the serpentine belt

• Route the belt exactly like your photo/diagram.
• Rotate the tensioner using a 16mm socket and slip the belt onto the alternator pulley.
• Visually confirm the belt ribs are seated in every pulley groove.

Step 9: Reassemble and reconnect the battery

• Reinstall the intake ducting and tighten clamps using a flat-blade screwdriver.
• Reinstall the belly pan using Torx T25 bit / Torx T30 bit.
• Lower the vehicle safely.
• Reconnect the negative battery terminal using a 10mm socket.

✅ After Repair

• Start the engine and confirm the battery/charging warning light is off.
• With the engine idling, verify charging voltage is roughly 13.8–14.8V using a multimeter (if available).
• Listen for belt squeal or slapping; re-check belt seating if you hear noise.
• If power windows lose “one-touch,” re-initialize by holding the switch up for a few seconds after fully closed.
