🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Disconnect the battery

• Use a 10mm battery terminal wrench to loosen the negative (-) terminal and remove it.
• Move the cable aside so it can’t spring back onto the post.

Step 2: Remove intake ducting for access

• Use a Phillips screwdriver (or 10mm socket if equipped) to loosen the intake hose clamp(s).
• Remove any plastic push-clips using a flat trim clip tool.
• Lift out the intake duct/air snorkel as needed to create working room near the alternator.

Step 3: Relieve belt tension and remove the serpentine belt

• Locate the belt tensioner (spring-loaded arm with a pulley).
• Use a 14mm socket with a 1/2" drive breaker bar to rotate the tensioner and release belt tension.
• Slip the belt off the alternator pulley first, then slowly release the tensioner.
• Go slow releasing the tensioner—spring force is strong.

Step 4: Disconnect alternator electrical connections

• Unplug the alternator electrical connector by pressing the lock tab; use a pick tool gently if the tab is stuck.
• Remove the rubber protective boot over the alternator power stud.
• Use a 12mm socket with a 3/8" drive ratchet to remove the power cable nut, then lift the ring terminal off.
• Place the cable where it cannot touch metal. Battery is disconnected, but stay tidy.

Step 5: Unbolt and remove the alternator

• Use a 14mm socket with a 3/8" drive extension to remove the alternator mounting bolts.
• Support the alternator with one hand as the last bolt comes out.
• Work the alternator out of the engine bay (you may need to rotate it to clear hoses/brackets).
• Torque on install: Torque to OEM specification

Step 6: Install the new alternator

• Set the new alternator into place and hand-thread the mounting bolts to avoid cross-threading.
• Use a 14mm socket to snug bolts evenly, then tighten with a torque wrench.
• Torque on install: Torque to OEM specification

Step 7: Reconnect alternator wiring

• Install the main power cable onto the alternator stud and tighten the nut using a 12mm socket and torque wrench.
• Reinstall the rubber boot over the stud.
• Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the connector seal, then plug the alternator connector in until it clicks.
• Torque on install: Torque to OEM specification

Step 8: Reinstall the serpentine belt

• Route the belt according to the under-hood belt diagram (or your photo).
• Use a 14mm socket and 1/2" drive breaker bar to rotate the tensioner, slip the belt onto the alternator pulley, then slowly release the tensioner.
• Visually confirm the belt sits fully in every pulley groove (no ribs hanging off).

Step 9: Reinstall intake ducting

• Reinstall the intake duct/snorkel and any clips using a flat trim clip tool.
• Tighten clamps using a Phillips screwdriver or 10mm socket (whichever your clamps use).

Step 10: Reconnect the battery and final check

• Install anti-corrosion pads if you’re using them.
• Reconnect the negative (-) battery terminal using a 10mm battery terminal wrench.
• Torque on install: Torque to OEM specification
