šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Verify the replacement battery matches
- Check the label on the old battery for AGM vs non-AGM and match it.
- Confirm the new batteryās physical size and terminal layout match the old one.
Step 2: Access the battery
- Open the hood.
- If a cover/air duct is in the way, remove it using a trim clip tool for push-clips and a 10mm socket where applicable.
Step 3: Disconnect the negative (ā) cable first
- Use a 10mm socket to loosen the negative terminal clamp nut.
- Lift the negative cable off and tuck it aside so it cannot spring back to the terminal.
- If itās stuck, use a terminal puller.
Step 4: Disconnect the positive (+) cable
- Use a 10mm socket to loosen the positive terminal clamp nut.
- Lift the positive cable off and position it away from the battery.
Step 5: Remove the battery hold-down

Step 7: Clean and prep the terminals
- Use a battery terminal brush to clean the inside of each cable clamp until the metal looks bright.
- Wipe away debris (keep it out of your eyes).
- Install battery terminal anti-corrosion pads onto the terminals.
Step 8: Install the new battery
- Set the new battery into the tray in the same orientation as the old one.
- Reinstall the hold-down bracket using a 13mm socket.
- Use a torque wrench to tighten the hold-down to the specification shown on your underhood label/service information.
- Reconnect the vent tube if equipped.
Step 9: Reconnect cables (positive first, negative last)
- Install the positive (+) cable first and tighten with a 10mm socket.
- Install the negative (ā) cable last and tighten with a 10mm socket.
- Use a torque wrench to tighten terminal clamp nuts to the specification shown on your underhood label/service information.
- Spray battery terminal protectant on the connections.
Step 10: Reinstall any covers/ducting
- Reinstall anything you removed using a trim clip tool and 10mm socket as needed.
ā After Repair
