🔧 12V Battery - Replacement

Assumption: This is the 12V auxiliary battery, not the high-voltage hybrid battery. On your RAV4 Hybrid, the 12V battery is serviced in the rear cargo area.

The 12V battery powers the computers, locks, lights, and boot-up systems. If it is weak or dead, the vehicle may not go READY even though the hybrid system is fine. Replacing it is straightforward if you work carefully around the trim and terminal connections.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 1-1.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Do not touch the orange high-voltage cables or hybrid battery components.
  • Make sure the vehicle is fully OFF and the key fob is away from the car.
  • Keep metal tools away from both battery terminals to avoid sparks.
  • Use gloves and safety glasses.
  • Battery is heavy. Lift with both hands.
  • Disconnect the negative terminal first and reconnect it last.
