📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Make sure the ignition is off and all lights are off.
- Open the hood and locate the battery on the driver side of the engine bay.
- If you use a memory saver, connect it before disconnecting the battery.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the battery
- Open the hood and secure it.
- Remove any plastic cover over the battery if equipped.
- Keep hardware in a tray.
Step 2: Disconnect the negative terminal
- Use the 10mm wrench to loosen the negative terminal clamp.
- Remove the negative cable and tuck it aside so it cannot spring back and touch the post.
Step 3: Disconnect the positive terminal
- Use the 10mm wrench to loosen the positive terminal clamp.
- Remove the positive cable and keep it away from the battery.
Step 4: Remove the battery hold-down
- Use the 10mm socket and ratchet to remove the battery hold-down bracket.
- Lift the bracket and hardware out.
- Do not drop bolts into the tray.
Step 5: Lift out the old battery
- Use both hands or a battery strap or bungee cord if needed to lift the battery straight up.
- Set it upright on the ground.
Step 6: Clean the tray and terminals
- Use the battery terminal brush to clean corrosion from the cable clamps and tray area.
- Wipe the tray dry before installing the new battery.
Step 7: Install the new battery
- Set the new battery into the tray with the terminals in the same orientation as the old one.
- Install the hold-down bracket with the 10mm socket and ratchet.
- Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs).
Step 8: Reconnect the positive terminal
- Install the positive cable first.
- Use the 10mm wrench to tighten the clamp.
- Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs).
Step 9: Reconnect the negative terminal
- Install the negative cable last.
- Use the 10mm wrench to tighten the clamp.
- Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs).
Step 10: Apply protectant and verify operation
- Spray a light coat of battery terminal protectant spray on the terminals.
- Start the vehicle and confirm normal cranking and dashboard operation.

- Reset the clock and any saved radio presets if needed.
- Check that the battery is secure and the terminals do not move by hand.
- If warning lights stay on after a short drive, have the charging system tested.
