🔧 Battery - 12V Auxiliary Battery Replacement
Assumption: This guide is for the 12V auxiliary battery, not the high-voltage hybrid battery pack. The hybrid pack is a sealed system and should not be serviced as a DIY battery swap.
The 12V battery powers the electronics, locks, lights, and controls in your RAV4. Replacing it is straightforward, but the hybrid system needs careful handling so you do not lose memory settings or create a fault code.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Do not open or attempt to replace the high-voltage hybrid battery pack.
- Turn the ignition fully off and keep the key fob away from the vehicle.
- Wear safety glasses and gloves. Battery acid and corrosion can irritate skin and eyes.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal first, then the positive terminal.
- When reinstalling, connect the positive terminal first, then the negative terminal.
- Keep metal tools away from both battery terminals at the same time.
