š§ Ridgeline - Taillight Bulb Replacement

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
ā ļø Safety & Precautions
- ā ļø Turn the lights OFF and remove the key before starting.
- ā ļø If the bulbs were recently on, let them cool to avoid burns.
- ā ļø Support the taillight so it doesnāt scratch the paint when it releases.
- ā ļø Do not touch glass bulbs with bare fingers; skin oil can shorten bulb life.

- Have your replacement bulbs ready and keep them clean (gloves help).
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm which bulb youāre replacing
- Turn the lights ON briefly to confirm whatās out (tail/running light vs brake vs turn vs reverse), then turn them OFF again.
- Different functions can use different bulbs.
Step 2: Remove the left taillight assembly
- Use 8mm socket, 6" extension, and 1/4" drive ratchet to remove the two taillight mounting bolts at the inner edge (tailgate side).
- Gently pull the taillight straight rearward to release the alignment pins (do not pry against painted metal).
- If itās stuck, use a plastic trim removal tool carefully to help start it moving, then pull by hand.
Step 3: Remove the bulb socket
- Use a flashlight to identify the correct socket for the bulb you need.
- Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand and pull it out of the housing.
- A āsocketā is the plastic holder the bulb locks into.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Wear nitrile gloves and pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (most are a push-in type).
- Push the new bulb straight in until fully seated.
- Apply a very thin wipe of dielectric grease to the socket seal if it looks dry (avoid getting grease on the bulb glass).
Step 5: Reinstall the bulb socket and taillight
- Insert the socket back into the housing and twist clockwise by hand until it locks.
- Align the taillight pins and press the assembly straight forward until fully seated.
- Install the bolts using the 8mm socket, extension, and ratchet, then Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs).
Step 6: Repeat on the right side
- Repeat Steps 2-5 for the right taillight assembly using the same tools.
- Replace bulbs in pairs for even brightness/color.
Step 7: If your Ridgeline has LED (no replaceable bulb)
- If you remove the taillight and find no twist-out bulb sockets (or the ābulbā is built into the housing), that function is LED and the fix is typically replacing the taillight assembly.
- If thatās what youāre seeing, tell me which function is out (tail/brake/turn/reverse) and which side, and Iāll guide you through the correct assembly replacement path.
ā After Repair
- Test: tail/running lights, brake lights, turn signals, reverse lights, and hazard flashers.
- Make sure both taillight assemblies sit flush and do not wiggle.
- Verify thereās no ābulb outā warning on the dash (if equipped).
