🔧 Accord - Taillight Bulb Replacement
You can replace both rear taillight bulbs from inside the trunk without removing the taillight housing. The key is accessing the bulb sockets, twisting them out, and swapping the bulbs without touching the glass.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.7 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before starting.
- ⚠️ Let bulbs cool first; they can be hot.
- ⚠️ Wear gloves and avoid touching bulb glass (skin oils can shorten bulb life).
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Safety glasses
- Nitrile gloves
- Trim panel tool
- Small flathead screwdriver
- Flashlight
🔩 Required Parts

- Rear taillight/brake bulbs (7443) - Qty: 2
- Dielectric grease - Qty: 1
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Open the trunk and remove any cargo so you can work comfortably.
- Have your flashlight ready so you can see the bulb sockets clearly.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the left taillight bulb area
- Open the trunk and go to the left (driver) side.
- Use a trim panel tool to pop open the trunk liner access flap (or remove the push clips if equipped).
- Use a flashlight to locate the taillight bulb sockets on the back of the taillight housing.
Step 2: Remove the taillight/brake bulb socket
- Identify the taillight/brake socket (usually the larger, main red-lens bulb socket).
- Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn, then pull it straight out by hand.
- If it’s tight, gently help it with a small flathead screwdriver on the socket tabs. Don’t pry on the lens.
Step 3: Replace the bulb (left side)
- Put on nitrile gloves.
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a push-in style).
- Push the new 7443 bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Optional: Apply a tiny smear of dielectric grease to the socket seal (this helps keep moisture out).
Step 4: Reinstall the socket (left side)
- Insert the socket back into the taillight housing.
- Twist clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks in place.
- Reinstall the trunk liner access flap using the trim panel tool as needed.
Step 5: Repeat on the right taillight
- Move to the right (passenger) side of the trunk.
- Use the trim panel tool to open the access flap.
- Repeat Steps 2–4 to replace the bulb on the right side.
✅ After Repair
- Turn the ignition to ON (engine not required) and turn on the parking lights to confirm both taillights work.
- Press the brake pedal (or have someone help) to confirm both brake lights work.
- If a bulb doesn’t light, remove that socket and confirm the bulb is fully seated and the socket is fully twisted/locked.
