🔧 1500 - Tail Light Bulb Replacement
You’ll remove each tail lamp assembly, swap the bulb(s), then reinstall the lamp. This is a simple job, but the key is pulling the lamp straight back so you don’t break the alignment pins.

⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn lights off and remove the key before starting.
- ⚠️ Let bulbs cool first; they can be hot.
- ⚠️ Don’t touch new bulb glass with bare fingers; oil can shorten bulb life.

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and shift to Park.
- Open the tailgate to access the tail lamp screws.
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Remove the left tail lamp screws
- Open the tailgate.
- Use a Torx T25 screwdriver to remove the two screws on the inboard edge of the left tail lamp (the edge facing the tailgate opening).
- Torque: Ram does not publish a service torque for these lamp screws; reinstall snug only with the Torx T25 screwdriver (do not overtighten).
Step 2: Pull the tail lamp assembly straight back
- Grip the lamp with both hands and pull it straight rearward.
- If it feels stuck, use a plastic trim removal tool to gently help it start moving, then continue pulling straight back.
- Two locator pins hold it tight.
Step 3: Remove the bulb socket(s)
- Twist the bulb socket you’re replacing counterclockwise by hand and pull it out of the lamp.
- If you’re unsure which bulb is out, you can match it by position (top/middle/bottom) to the bulb you’re replacing on the other side.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket by hand (use a paper towel for grip if needed).
- Install the new bulb fully into the socket.
- If it’s a glass bulb, use nitrile gloves so you don’t touch the glass.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and test
- Insert the socket back into the lamp and twist clockwise until it locks by hand.
- Before reinstalling the lamp, turn the lights on to test the bulb you replaced.
- For brake/turn bulbs: have a helper press the brake pedal and verify brightness.
Step 6: Reinstall the tail lamp assembly
- Line up the locator pins and press the lamp straight into place.
- Reinstall the two screws using the Torx T25 screwdriver.
- Torque: Not specified by Ram; tighten snug only.
Step 7: Repeat on the right side
- Repeat Steps 1-6 for the right tail lamp.
âś… After Repair
- Test all rear lighting: parking lights, brake lights, turn signals, hazards, and reverse lights.
- If a new bulb doesn’t work, remove the socket and reinstall it firmly (it may not be fully seated).
- Make sure both tail lamps sit flush and don’t wiggle.
