🔧 Rogue - Side View Mirror Replacement
You’ll be removing the interior door trim at the mirror corner, unplugging the mirror wiring, then unbolting and swapping the mirror assembly. This protects the wiring and door panel while letting you install the new mirror without damage.
Difficulty Level: Intermediate | Estimated Time: 1–1.5 hours per side
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🔸Disconnect the negative battery cable before unplugging mirror wiring to avoid short circuits or airbag warning lights.
- 🔸Work with the window fully lowered so you don’t stress the glass or window seals.
- 🔸Be careful around the front door side airbag area (inside the door). Do not poke deep metal tools into the door cavity.
- 🔸Support the mirror with one hand while removing the last nut so it doesn’t drop and scratch the door.
- 🔸Protect the paint by putting masking tape around the mirror base on the outside of the door.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- 🔸10mm socket
- 🔸Ratchet handle (1/4" drive)
- 🔸3" socket extension (1/4" drive)
- 🔸Phillips #2 screwdriver

- 🔸Door mirror mounting nuts (10mm, flanged) - Qty: 3 per mirror (reuse is common, but replace if rusted or damaged)
- 🔸Door trim panel push clips - Qty: 4–6 (optional, in case any break)
- 🔸Butyl sealing tape or foam strip - Qty: enough to reseal mirror area if factory seal is damaged
📋 Before You Begin
- Park your Rogue on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Lower the window fully on the side you’re working on.
- Turn ignition OFF and remove the key (or switch OFF and open the driver door on push-button start).
- Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal using the 10mm socket. Move the cable aside so it can’t spring back.
- Keep all screws and clips from the door panel in a small container so you don’t lose them.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Protect the paint and interior
- Use masking tape 1" to tape around the mirror base on the outside of the door where it meets the paint.
- Put a rag or towel on the door sill to catch any dropped hardware.
- Protecting paint saves headaches later
Step 2: Remove the small mirror trim cover
- The mirror mounting area is behind a small triangular plastic trim piece at the top front corner of the door panel, inside the car.
- Use a trim removal tool plastic set to gently pry at the edge of this triangle cover where it meets the door panel.
- Work your way around until the clips pop free, then pull the trim piece straight off. Set it aside.
- Do not use bare metal tools on visible plastic
Step 3: Access and disconnect the mirror wiring
- Behind the trim cover you’ll see the mirror wiring connector and usually some foam sound insulation.
- Gently peel back the foam or tape by hand. If needed, use the trim removal tool plastic set to lift it without tearing.
- Locate the electrical connector for the mirror. Press the locking tab with your thumb or a flathead screwdriver (small) and pull the connector apart.
- If the lock is stubborn, use needle nose pliers to squeeze the tab while you pull.
- Always pull connectors by the plastic body
Step 4: Support the mirror from the outside
- Go outside the vehicle and place one hand under the mirror housing to support it.
- You can also loop a piece of tape or a short bungee from the mirror to the door frame to hold it while you loosen the nuts.
- Supporting prevents the mirror dropping and chipping paint
Step 5: Remove the mirror mounting nuts
- Return inside the vehicle.
- Use a 10mm socket, 3" socket extension, and ratchet handle (1/4" drive) to remove the three mirror mounting nuts behind the triangle area.
- Loosen and remove the top two nuts first while still holding the mirror from the outside with your other hand if possible.
- Loosen the last nut almost all the way, then with one hand supporting the mirror from outside, remove the final nut completely.
- Keep nuts in a tray so none are lost
Step 6: Remove the old mirror
- With the nuts removed, carefully pull the mirror away from the door from the outside.
- Guide the wiring harness and connector out through the opening. Do not yank it; gently feed it through by hand.
- Set the old mirror on a clean, soft surface.
Step 7: Prepare the new mirror
- Compare the new mirror to the old one on a table.
- Check:
- Connector shape and number of pins
- Presence of turn signal in glass or housing (if equipped)
- Blind spot indicator or camera (if your Rogue has these features)
- If the new mirror has a foam gasket or seal, make sure it is properly seated and not twisted.
- If the old mirror had extra sealing foam that stayed on the door and is damaged, scrape it off carefully with a flathead screwdriver (small) and replace with butyl sealing tape or foam strip.
- Matching connectors and features is critical
Step 8: Install the new mirror on the door
- Feed the new mirror wiring harness and connector through the opening in the door from the outside.
- Align the mirror studs with the holes in the door and gently seat the mirror against the door panel, making sure the gasket sits flat all the way around.
- Hold the mirror in position with one hand from the outside.
- From inside, start the top nut on its stud by hand, turning it several threads to avoid cross-threading.
- Install the remaining two nuts by hand as well.
Step 9: Tighten the mirror mounting nuts
- Use the 10mm socket, 3" socket extension, and ratchet handle (1/4" drive) to snug all three nuts evenly.
- Tighten a little on each nut in a crisscross pattern so the mirror gasket compresses evenly.
- Nissan often does not publish a specific torque for these nuts; if you have a torque wrench 1/4" drive (inch-lb scale), a light setting around 7–9 Nm (62–80 in-lbs) is typical for small 10mm mirror nuts. Do not overtighten.
- Stop as soon as the mirror is firm and doesn’t move
Step 10: Reconnect the mirror wiring
- Plug the mirror connector into the door-side connector by hand until it clicks.
- Give a gentle pull on the connector halves to ensure they are locked together.
- Reposition any foam insulation over the connector. Use a small piece of butyl sealing tape or foam strip if the original adhesive no longer sticks.
Step 11: Reinstall the interior triangle trim cover
- Align the triangle cover over its mounting area, making sure the plastic clips line up with their holes.
- Press firmly with your hand around the edges until you hear all clips snap into place.
- Check that the trim sits flush with the door panel and doesn’t rattle.
Step 12: Reconnect the battery and test the mirror
- Under the hood, use the 10mm socket and ratchet handle (1/4" drive) to reconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten the nut.
- Get in your Rogue and switch ignition ON (engine can stay off).
- Use the mirror adjustment switch to move the new mirror up, down, left, and right. Confirm full movement.
- If your mirror is heated, turn on the rear defogger and, after a few minutes, gently feel the glass to confirm it warms up.
- If your mirror has turn signals, activate the turn signal and verify the light works.
- If your mirror has blind spot monitoring indicators, start the engine and drive slowly to confirm the indicator lights appear normally when a vehicle is in the blind spot.
Step 13: Final alignment and cleanup
- From the driver’s seat, adjust the mirror to your preferred position.
- Inspect the outside gasket area for gaps. If any are visible, lightly press the mirror base toward the door and confirm the nuts are snug.
- Remove all masking tape from the door and mirror.
- Wipe fingerprints off the mirror glass and housing.
✅ After Repair
- 🔸Test all mirror functions: power adjustment, heating, turn signal, blind spot indicator, and any camera view if equipped.
- 🔸Take a short drive and verify there are no wind whistles around the mirror at highway speeds. If you hear noise, recheck the gasket fit and nut tightness.
- 🔸Confirm there are no new warning lights on the dash. If a blind spot or camera warning appears, recheck the connector and wiring.
- 🔸Re-adjust both side mirrors and the rearview mirror for a clear view with minimal blind spots.
💰 DIY vs Shop Cost
Shop Cost: $350–$650 per side (parts + labor, depending on options like heat, turn signal, and blind spot monitoring)
DIY Cost: $120–$350 per side (parts only, depending on mirror options and paint)
You Save: $230–$300+ per side by doing it yourself!
