š Before You Begin
- Park your Escape on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
- Lower the window slightly, then raise it fully (this gives you room to grab the panel without hitting the glass).
- Use 10mm wrench to disconnect the negative battery cable, then wait 10 minutes.
- Apply painterās tape along the door edge near the mirror to help prevent paint chips.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Remove the interior sail panel (mirror trim)
- At the top front of the door (by the mirror), use a trim removal tool (plastic) to pop off the small triangular trim panel.
- If thereās a small connector behind it (some trims do), release the lock with a pick tool and unplug it.
Step 2: Remove the door handle/armrest screws
- Use a pick tool to lift the small covers in the interior pull handle/armrest area.
- Remove the exposed fasteners using a 7mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet.
- If equipped, remove any additional door-trim screws near the handle area using a Torx T20 screwdriver.
Step 3: Release the door trim panel
- Starting at the bottom edge, slide a trim removal tool (plastic) between the panel and the door and pop the clips free.
- Work around the sides until all clips release. Pull straight out to save clips.
Step 4: Lift the panel off and disconnect wiring
- Lift the door panel upward to unhook it from the window ledge.
- Unplug the door switch connectors by releasing the locking tabs with a pick tool.
- If equipped, disconnect the courtesy/puddle lamp connector at the bottom of the panel.
- For the door handle cable: rotate the cable housing out of its bracket, then unhook the cable end from the handle.
Step 5: Disconnect the mirror electrical connector
- Locate the mirror harness connector inside the door near the mirror area.
- Release the lock with a pick tool and unplug the connector.
Step 6: Remove the mirror mounting nuts
- Support the mirror from the outside with one hand and a shop towel under it.
- Remove the three mirror nuts using a 10mm socket, 1/4" drive ratchet, and extension (3"-6").
Step 7: Remove the mirror assembly
- Feed the mirror harness and grommet through the door opening and remove the mirror.
- Clean the mounting surface using shop towels.
Step 8: Install the new mirror
- Feed the harness/grommet through the opening and set the mirror onto the door.
- Start all three nuts by hand to avoid cross-threading.
- Tighten the nuts evenly using a 10mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet.
- Final-tighten using a torque wrench (in-lb): Torque to 10 Nm (89 in-lb).
Step 9: Reconnect wiring and reassemble the door panel
- Plug in the mirror connector until it clicks (use flashlight to verify itās fully seated).
- Reconnect all door panel electrical connectors and the door handle cable.
- Hang the panel on the top window ledge, then press the panel in to engage clips.
- Reinstall fasteners using a 7mm socket and any Torx fasteners using a Torx T20 screwdriver.
- Snap the sail panel back on by hand.
Step 10: Reconnect the battery
- Reconnect the negative battery cable using a 10mm wrench.

- Turn ignition ON and test mirror movement (up/down/left/right).
- If equipped, test heated mirrors, turn signal on the mirror, puddle lamp, and memory positions.
- Verify the window and door lock switches work.
- Drive and listen for wind noise; if present, recheck mirror seating and nut torque.
