🔧 Side View Mirrors - Replacement
Your mirror assembly mounts to the door from inside the upper door panel area. This job is straightforward, but you must support the mirror while removing the fasteners so it does not drop or scratch the paint. If your truck has power mirrors or heated mirrors, unplug the connector before removing the assembly.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 1-2 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Use care around the painted door edge and glass; the mirror assembly can scratch the paint if it slips.
- If the mirror is heated or power-adjustable, disconnect the mirror electrical connector before removing the assembly.
- Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.
- Work slowly near the door trim clips.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Remove the sail panel or upper door trim
- Use a trim panel removal tool to carefully pop off the small triangular sail panel at the front upper corner of the door.
- If your truck has an upper interior trim cover instead, remove it gently with the trim tool.
- Set the trim aside so the clips do not get damaged.
Step 2: Unplug the mirror connector
- Reach behind the mirror area and disconnect the electrical connector by pressing the release tab with your fingers or a small flat-blade screwdriver.
- If the mirror is manual and has no connector, skip this step.
Step 3: Remove the mirror fasteners
- Use a 10mm socket, 1/4-inch ratchet, and 1/4-inch extension to remove the 3 mirror nuts from inside the door.
- Hold the mirror from the outside with your free hand while removing the last nut.
- Torque to 8 N·m (71 lb-in) on installation.
Step 4: Remove the mirror assembly
- Carefully pull the mirror assembly away from the door and remove it from the vehicle.
- Inspect the mounting surface and clean away any old seal material or dirt.
Step 5: Install the new mirror
- Set the new mirror into position on the door.
- Start all 3 mounting nuts by hand before tightening them.
- Use the 10mm socket and torque wrench to tighten the nuts evenly.
- Torque to 8 N·m (71 lb-in).
- Hand-start every nut first.
Step 6: Reconnect and reassemble
- If equipped, reconnect the mirror electrical connector until it clicks.
- Reinstall the sail panel or trim cover and press it firmly into place.
- Make sure all clips are seated correctly.
✅ After Repair
- Turn the ignition on and test mirror adjustment, heating, and any power-fold function if equipped.
- Check that the mirror is secure and does not move by hand.
- Drive slowly and verify the mirror view is correct.
- If the power mirror switch does not work, recheck the connector and fuse.
