🔧 Camry - Side View Mirror Replacement
You’ll remove the small interior trim triangle at the front of the window, unplug the mirror (if equipped), and swap the mirror by removing the three mounting nuts. This is a straightforward job, but it’s easy to drop a nut inside the door or scratch paint, so go slow.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours per mirror
Quick questions (so you buy the correct mirrors): Which side(s) are you replacing (left, right, or both), and are your mirrors power-adjust (switch inside) or manual (you push the glass by hand)?
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🧤 Wear gloves; the door metal edges can be sharp.
- 🪟 Keep the window fully up to avoid bumping the glass.
- 🔋 If your mirror is power-adjust, disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent accidental shorts.
- 🎨 Put masking tape around the mirror base on the outside to help protect the paint.

📋 Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park on level ground, set the parking brake, and turn the key OFF.
- 🔋 If equipped with a power mirror: use a 10mm socket to disconnect the negative battery cable and set it aside so it can’t spring back.
- 🧰 Lay a towel on the door sill area to catch any dropped nuts.
- 🧼 Clean the area around the mirror base to reduce scratching while you work.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Protect the paint and prep the area
- Apply masking tape around the outside mirror base where it meets the door.
- Lower the window slightly if needed for access, then raise it fully again.
Step 2: Remove the interior mirror trim (sail panel)
- At the front top corner of the door (inside), locate the small triangular trim piece.
- Use a plastic trim removal tool to gently pry the trim straight away from the door.
- Pry near the clips, not the thin edge.
- If there’s a small screw on your trim piece, remove it with a Phillips screwdriver #2.
Step 3: Disconnect the mirror wiring (power mirrors only)
- Locate the mirror connector behind the trim triangle.
- Press the lock tab and unplug it by hand; use needle-nose pliers only if needed and gently.
- Don’t pull on the wires—pull on the connector.
Step 4: Remove the mirror mounting nuts
- Support the mirror from the outside with one hand.
- Use a 10mm socket, 6" extension, and 1/4" drive ratchet to remove the three nuts.
- Place the nuts somewhere safe; don’t let them drop into the door.
Step 5: Remove the old mirror
- From the outside, pull the mirror straight away from the door.
- If it feels stuck, gently wiggle it—there’s usually a foam gasket that can “hold” it in place.
Step 6: Install the new mirror
- Feed the mirror wiring (if equipped) through the hole in the door.
- Set the mirror onto the door, making sure the gasket sits flat and the studs line up.
- Thread the three nuts on by hand first to avoid cross-threading.
- Use the 10mm socket and ratchet to snug the nuts evenly.
- Final tighten with a torque wrench: Torque to 7.5 Nm (66 in-lb).
Step 7: Reconnect wiring and reinstall the interior trim
- (Power mirrors only) Plug the connector back in until it clicks.
- Reinstall the trim triangle by lining up the clips, then press firmly by hand.
- If your trim had a screw, reinstall it using a Phillips screwdriver #2.
- Remove the masking tape from the outside.
Step 8: Reconnect the battery (if disconnected)
- Use a 10mm socket to reconnect the negative battery cable.
✅ After Repair
- 🔍 Check the mirror sits flush and the gasket isn’t pinched.
- 🎛️ If power-adjust: turn key ON and test all mirror directions from the switch.
- 🚗 Take a short drive and listen for wind noise; if you hear whistling, slightly loosen and re-seat the mirror, then re-torque to spec.
