🔧 GS350 - Rear Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
You’ll access the rear lamp from inside the trunk, remove the turn-signal bulb socket, and swap the bulb. This is usually quick, but some GS350 rear turn signals are LED (no bulb); in that case, the rear lamp assembly/module is replaced instead.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn lights off and let bulbs cool before touching.
- ⚠️ Wear gloves—bulbs can shatter if dropped.
- ⚠️ Support the trunk trim so it doesn’t snap or crease.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for a basic bulb swap.

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.

- Have a small container ready for clips/fasteners.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm which side and access the lamp area
- Turn the hazard lights on briefly to confirm which rear turn signal you’re replacing, then turn them back off.
- Use a flashlight to locate the access panel/trim behind the rear lamp inside the trunk.
Step 2: Remove the trunk trim/access cover
- Use a trim removal tool (plastic) (specialty) to gently pop out any push-clips holding the trunk side trim.
- If equipped with screws, remove them with a Phillips screwdriver #2.
- Peel back the trunk lining enough to reach the bulb sockets.
- Trim tool prevents scratching and broken clips. (A trim tool is a plastic pry tool made for interior clips.)
Step 3: Remove the rear turn signal bulb socket
- Identify the turn signal socket (usually labeled on the housing; it’s one of the twist-lock sockets).
- Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn, then pull it straight out.
- If it’s tight, wiggle gently—do not force the wiring.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Wear nitrile gloves.
- Remove the old bulb by pulling it straight out of the socket.
- Push the new rear turn signal bulb (amber) straight into the socket until fully seated.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and test
- Insert the socket back into the lamp housing, then rotate clockwise to lock.
- Turn the hazards on and verify the turn signal flashes at a normal speed.
- If it flashes fast, the bulb may be wrong type, not seated, or that side may be LED-equipped.
Step 6: Reinstall trunk trim
- Reposition the trunk lining.
- Reinstall clips by pressing them in by hand; use the trim removal tool (plastic) (specialty) to align them first.
- Reinstall any screws with a Phillips screwdriver #2.
Step 7 (If your rear turn signal is LED and there is no removable bulb): Replace the rear lamp assembly
- Unplug the rear lamp electrical connector by pressing the tab and pulling straight back.
- Remove lamp retaining nuts with a 10mm socket, 1/4" drive ratchet, and 6" socket extension.
- Carefully pull the lamp straight back to release the alignment pins.
- Install the new lamp assembly and tighten nuts evenly: Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs).
- Reconnect the connector and test the turn signal.
âś… After Repair
- Verify left and right turn signals, hazards, and brake lights work correctly.
- Make sure the trunk trim is secure and not pinching any wiring.
- Check for moisture inside the lens over the next day; a loose socket can cause leaks.
