šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm which rear lamp youāre servicing
- Turn the hazard lights ON briefly and walk around to see which side is out, then turn hazards OFF.
- The rear turn signal is typically in the outer tail lamp (on the body), not the hatch.
Step 2: Access the tail lamp from inside the cargo area
- Use a trim removal tool to pop off the small access cover behind the rear tail lamp area (inside the cargo trim).
- If your trim uses a screw, remove it with a Phillips screwdriver.
- Use a flashlight to locate the bulb socket area.
Step 3: Remove the rear turn signal bulb socket
- Reach behind the tail lamp and find the turn-signal socket (it will have wiring going into it).
- Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand and pull it straight out.
- If itās tight, wear nitrile gloves for better grip.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket by hand.
- Install the new 7440 amber bulb by pushing it straight in until fully seated.
- Donāt touch the glassāhold the base.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and check operation
- Reinsert the socket into the tail lamp and twist clockwise until it locks.
- Turn the hazards ON to verify the new bulb flashes normally.
- If it flashes fast, the bulb may not be seated, or you may have a different lamp type.
Step 6: Reinstall the interior access cover
- Reinstall the access cover by pressing it back into place by hand.
- If removed, reinstall the screw using a Phillips screwdriver (snug only).
Step 7: If you do NOT find a removable bulb socket
- Some tail lamps use LED turn signals where the bulb is not serviceable.
- If thereās no twist-out socket for the turn signal, the fix is replacing the rear tail lamp assembly.
- Tell me if your turn signal is on the hatch or the outer body lamp, and Iāll give the exact assembly replacement steps.
ā After Repair
- Verify left and right rear turn signals, brake lights, and tail lights all work.
- Make sure the access cover is fully clipped in to prevent rattles.
