🔧 Ranger - Rear Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Ranger’s rear turn signal bulb sits inside the tail lamp assembly. To replace it, you’ll remove the tail lamp from the bedside, twist the bulb socket out, swap the bulb, and reinstall everything.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and set the parking brake before starting.
- ⚠️ Let bulbs cool first—old bulbs can be hot.
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the new bulb’s glass with bare fingers; skin oils can shorten bulb life.
- Battery disconnect is not required for this job.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Torx T25 screwdriver
- Plastic trim removal tool
- Small flathead screwdriver
- Nitrile gloves

🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Rear turn signal bulb - Qty: 1 (or Qty: 2 if replacing both sides)
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park your Ranger on level ground and turn all exterior lights OFF.
- Open the tailgate so you can access the tail lamp screws.
- If you’re unsure on bulb type, remove the old bulb first and match it exactly at checkout.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Remove the tail lamp screws
- Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.
- With the tailgate open, use a Torx T25 screwdriver to remove the two tail lamp retaining screws on that side.
- Set the screws aside where they won’t get lost.
Step 2: Pull the tail lamp assembly straight back
- Grab the tail lamp and pull it straight rearward (away from the truck) to release the locating pins.
- If it’s stuck, use a plastic trim removal tool to gently help separate it. A trim tool is a plastic pry tool that helps avoid paint damage.
- Pull straight back—don’t twist the lamp.
Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Find the turn signal bulb socket on the back of the tail lamp.
- Rotate the socket counterclockwise by hand to unlock it, then pull it out.
- If the socket is tight, use a small flathead screwdriver carefully to help start the rotation (don’t crack the housing).
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Install the new bulb by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Keep the bulb glass clean (use nitrile gloves).
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and tail lamp
- Reinsert the socket into the tail lamp and twist clockwise until it locks.
- Align the tail lamp locating pins with the holes in the bedside, then press the lamp straight in until it sits flush.
- Install the two screws using the Torx T25 screwdriver and Torque to 2.5 Nm (22 in-lbs).
Step 6: Repeat on the other side (recommended)
- If you’re replacing bulbs in pairs, repeat Steps 1–5 on the other tail lamp.
âś… After Repair
- Turn the ignition ON and test the left and right turn signals.
- Verify the turn signal flashes at a normal speed (a very fast flash usually means a bulb isn’t working or isn’t seated).
- Confirm the tail lamp sits flush and doesn’t wiggle.
