🔧 Murano - Rear Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Murano’s rear turn signal bulb sits in the rear combination (tail) lamp. The job is mostly about safely removing the tail lamp, swapping the bulb, and reinstalling everything so the lamp seals properly and doesn’t rattle.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the lights OFF and let the bulb cool before touching it.
- ⚠️ Support the tail lamp with your hand so it doesn’t drop and crack.
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the glass part of the new bulb with bare fingers; skin oils can shorten bulb life.
- Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Open the liftgate for access to the rear lamp fasteners.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the rear tail lamp fasteners
- Open the liftgate.
- Locate the fasteners on the inboard edge of the outer tail lamp (the part mounted to the body, not the liftgate).
- Some Muranos use Phillips screws here; others use 10mm nuts/bolts. Use a flashlight to confirm which you have.
Step 2: Remove the tail lamp fasteners
- If equipped with screws: remove them using a Phillips #2 screwdriver.
- If equipped with nuts/bolts: remove them using a 10mm socket and 1/4" ratchet.
- Set the fasteners aside where they won’t roll away.
Step 3: Pop the tail lamp loose from the body clips
- Hold the lamp with one hand.
- Use a plastic trim tool set to gently work at the seam and pull the lamp straight rearward (away from the vehicle).
- Pull straight back to avoid breaking pins.
Step 4: Remove the rear turn signal bulb socket
- Find the turn signal bulb socket on the back of the lamp (it will twist-lock into the housing).
- Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand and pull it out.
Step 5: Replace the bulb
- Wear nitrile gloves.
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Push the new rear turn signal bulb (amber, 7440A) straight into the socket until fully seated.
Step 6: Test the turn signal before reassembly
- Reinstall the bulb socket into the lamp and twist clockwise to lock it.
- Turn the ignition to ON and activate the turn signal.
- Confirm it flashes normally (not rapidly).
Step 7: Reinstall the tail lamp
- Align the lamp locating pins with the body holes and press the lamp straight forward until it seats flush.
- Reinstall the screws/nuts using a Phillips #2 screwdriver or 10mm socket.
- Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs) using a torque wrench (in-lb) (specialty).
âś… After Repair
- Verify both rear turn signals work (left and right), plus hazards.
- Check that the tail lamp sits evenly and doesn’t wiggle.
- If you got rapid flashing, the bulb may be the wrong type, not fully seated, or there may be a socket/ground issue.
