🔧 Rear Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

The rear turn signal bulbs are accessed from inside the taillight housing. You’ll remove the taillight assembly, twist out the turn signal bulb socket, and install the new bulb without touching the glass.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the lights off and let the bulbs cool before starting.
  • Use care when removing the taillight so you do not crack the lens.
  • Do not touch the glass part of the new bulb with bare fingers; oil from skin can shorten bulb life.
  • If the bulb is hard to twist, do not force it. Gentle pressure is enough.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • 10mm socket
  • Ratchet
  • Short extension
  • Trim panel tool
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Rear turn signal bulb - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the headlights and turn signals off.
  • Open the tailgate for easier access to the rear taillight fasteners.
  • For best results, replace bulbs in pairs if both sides are original.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the tailgate

  • Lower the tailgate to give yourself room to reach the taillight mounting bolts.

Step 2: Remove the taillight mounting bolts

  • Use a 10mm socket and ratchet to remove the two taillight bolts.
  • Keep the bolts in a safe place so they do not get lost.

Step 3: Release the taillight assembly

  • Use a trim panel tool or your hand to gently pull the taillight straight back.
  • Work it evenly so the locating pins slide out without breaking the housing.
  • Pull straight back, not sideways.

Step 4: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Find the rear turn signal socket on the back of the taillight housing.
  • Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand and pull it out.

Step 5: Replace the bulb

  • Remove the old bulb from the socket by pulling it straight out.
  • Install the new bulb into the socket until it seats fully.
  • Do not touch the glass with bare fingers; use gloves if possible.

Step 6: Reinstall the socket and taillight

  • Insert the socket back into the taillight housing and twist it clockwise to lock it in place.
  • Align the taillight pins with the body openings and press the lamp straight into position.
  • Reinstall the two 10mm bolts and tighten them snugly.
  • Torque to 4 Nm (35 in-lbs).

Step 7: Repeat on the other side if needed

  • If you are replacing both rear turn signal bulbs, repeat the same steps on the opposite side.

✅ After Repair

  • Turn the ignition on and test the rear turn signals on both sides.
  • Check the hazard lights too, since they use the same bulbs.
  • Make sure the taillight sits flush and there are no gaps.
