🔧 Rear Turn Signal Bulb - Replacement
Your rear turn signal bulbs are replaced from inside the cargo area by removing the tail lamp access panel and loosening the lamp assembly. This is a straightforward job, and it’s smart to replace both rear bulbs at the same time so the light output stays even.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Turn the lights off and remove the key or fob from the vehicle before starting.
- Let the tail lamp cool down if it has been on recently.
- Handle the new bulb with clean gloves or a clean cloth. Oil from your fingers can shorten bulb life.
- If you disconnect the battery, you may need to reset some stored settings afterward.
- Do not force the tail lamp housing. The locating pins can break if the lamp is pulled at an angle.

- Open the liftgate for access to the tail lamp fasteners.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the cargo area and remove the access cover
- Open the liftgate and move to the side with the failed bulb.
- Use a trim panel removal tool to pop off the small rear trim/access cover inside the cargo area.
- This exposes the tail lamp retaining fastener.
Step 2: Remove the tail lamp retaining bolt
- Use a 10mm socket and ratchet to remove the tail lamp bolt.
- Keep the bolt in a safe place.
- Pull straight back, not sideways.
Step 3: Release the tail lamp assembly
- Grip the tail lamp housing by hand and gently pull it straight rearward.
- If it is stuck, wiggle it lightly while pulling. Do not pry against the painted body panel.
- The lamp uses alignment pins, so it may feel tight the first time.
Step 4: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Locate the turn signal bulb socket on the back of the lamp housing.
- Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand and remove it.
- Use needle-nose pliers only if the socket is stuck, and be gentle.
Step 5: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Install the new rear turn signal bulb into the socket.
- Make sure it seats fully and straight.
- Do not touch the glass with bare fingers.
Step 6: Reinstall the socket and lamp
- Insert the bulb socket back into the tail lamp housing.
- Twist it clockwise until it locks.
- Align the lamp housing with the body and press it straight into place.
- Reinstall the 10mm bolt and snug it down. Torque to 5 N·m (44 in-lb).
Step 7: Reinstall the access cover
- Snap the rear trim/access cover back into place using your hands.
- Make sure it sits flush with the cargo trim.
✅ After Repair
- Turn on the parking lights and hazard lights to verify the new bulb works.
- Check both rear turn signals for normal brightness and flashing rate.
- Make sure the tail lamp sits even with the body and there are no gaps.
