Step-by-step access-panel instructions with tools, bulb tips, troubleshooting, and tail lamp torque specs
🔧 Murano - Rear Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Murano’s rear turn signal bulb sits in the tail lamp housing. You’ll access it from inside the liftgate area, twist the bulb socket out, swap the bulb, and test the signal.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and make sure all lights are OFF before starting.
- ⚠️ Let bulbs cool first; they can get very hot.
- ⚠️ Wear gloves; skin oil can shorten bulb life.
- ⚠️ Support the liftgate securely while working in the rear area.

📋 Before You Begin

- Open the liftgate for access and use a work light to see inside the panels.
- Assumption: your Murano uses a replaceable rear turn bulb.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the tail lamp service area
- Open the liftgate and locate the small trim access cover behind the tail lamp area.
- Use a nylon trim removal tool set to gently pry the cover open. (A trim tool is a plastic pry tool that removes panels without scratching.)
Step 2: Remove the rear turn signal bulb socket
- Find the bulb socket that corresponds to the rear turn signal (usually the amber/turn socket in the tail lamp).
- Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn to unlock it, then pull it straight out. (The socket is the plastic holder that twists into the lamp.)
Step 3: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Install the new bulb by pressing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Tip: Don’t touch the glass—use gloves.
Step 4: Reinstall the socket
- Insert the socket back into the tail lamp opening, making sure it sits flush.
- Rotate clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks.
Step 5: If you removed the tail lamp (only if needed)
- If access is tight and you had to remove the tail lamp: use a 10mm socket, 1/4" drive ratchet, and 6" extension (1/4" drive) to remove the retaining nuts.
- Pull the tail lamp straight back to release the locating pins (do not pry on the painted body).
- Reinstall and Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs) on the tail lamp nuts.
Step 6: Refit the access cover
- Snap the access cover back into place by hand.
- If any screws were removed, reinstall them using a Phillips #2 screwdriver.
✅ After Repair
- Turn the ignition ON and test the rear turn signal and hazard lights.
- Walk around the back to confirm the flashing speed looks normal (fast-flash usually means a bulb isn’t seated or is the wrong type).
- Make sure the access cover is fully clipped in so it won’t rattle.
