🔧 Odyssey - Rear Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Odyssey’s rear turn signal bulbs sit inside the rear combination lamp assemblies. You’ll access the bulb socket from inside the rear cargo area, swap the bulb, then test the signals and hazards to confirm everything works.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.7 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before working on bulbs.
- ⚠️ Let bulbs cool first; they can get hot.
- ⚠️ Wear gloves and avoid touching the bulb glass with bare fingers (skin oil can shorten bulb life).
- ⚠️ Support interior panels as you remove them to avoid breaking clips.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Trim removal tool (plastic) (specialty)
- Phillips #2 screwdriver
- Small flat-blade screwdriver
- Nitrile gloves
- Safety glasses
- Flashlight

📋 Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- 🚪 Open the tailgate for better access and lighting.
- 🔦 Have a flashlight ready so you can clearly see the bulb socket and locking tabs.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the rear lamp service cover
- Open the tailgate and move to the rear cargo area on the side you’re replacing.
- Locate the small access door/cover in the interior trim near the back corner (behind the tail lamp area).
- Use a trim removal tool (plastic) (specialty) to gently pry the access cover open.
- If a clip is stubborn, use a small flat-blade screwdriver carefully to start it, then finish with the trim tool.
- Tip: Pry slowly to avoid snapping clips.
Step 2: Remove the rear turn signal bulb socket
- Use a flashlight to identify the turn signal bulb socket (it will twist-lock into the lamp housing).
- Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise by hand to unlock it.
- If access is tight, use nitrile gloves for better grip.
- Pull the socket straight out of the lamp housing.
Step 3: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket by hand (wiggle gently if needed).
- Put on nitrile gloves and push the new bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
- If you accidentally touch the glass, wipe the bulb with a clean dry cloth before reinstalling.
Step 4: Reinstall the socket and close the trim cover
- Insert the socket back into the lamp housing, aligning the tabs.
- Rotate the socket clockwise by hand until it locks firmly.
- Snap the interior access cover back into place by hand.
- If the cover uses screws on your trim panel, reinstall them using a Phillips #2 screwdriver (snug only; no torque spec).
✅ After Repair
- ✅ Turn the ignition to ON and test the replaced side turn signal.
- ✅ Turn on the hazard lights and confirm both rear turn signals flash evenly.
- ✅ Walk behind the van to confirm the bulb is bright and not intermittent.
- ✅ If it doesn’t work: remove the socket and make sure the bulb is fully seated, then re-check.
