🔧 NX - Rear Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your NX’s rear turn signal bulbs sit inside the rear lamp assembly and can be replaced from inside the cargo area. The job is mostly trim access, then swapping the bulb in the turn-signal socket.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours
Assumption: your NX uses replaceable rear turn-signal bulbs (not LED).
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and switch all lights OFF before starting.
- ⚠️ Bulbs can be hot; let the lamp cool for 5–10 minutes.
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the glass of the new bulb with bare fingers; skin oil can shorten bulb life.
- ⚠️ Support cargo-area trim gently; don’t yank clips.

You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Nitrile gloves

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and shift to P.
- Open the rear hatch and remove any cargo to give yourself space.
- Keep the new bulbs in the package until you’re ready to install.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the rear lamp service area
- Open the hatch and move to the side you’re replacing first.
- Use a small flashlight to find the rear lamp access area behind the cargo trim (near the back corner).
- If there’s a small access door/cover, pry it open gently using a plastic trim removal tool set.
Step 2: Pull the turn-signal bulb socket
- Locate the bulb sockets on the back of the lamp assembly.
- Find the turn signal socket (typically the amber-bulb position; often the socket sits toward the outer/side area of the lamp).
- Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn, then pull it straight out by hand.
Step 3: Remove the old bulb
- Wear nitrile gloves.
- Pull the bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a push-in style).
- Wiggle gently; don’t twist hard.
Step 4: Install the new bulb
- Install the new rear turn signal bulb (amber) by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
- If you accidentally touch the glass, wipe it clean with a dry lint-free cloth before installing.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and test
- Insert the socket back into the lamp housing and rotate clockwise to lock.
- Turn the ignition to ON and activate the turn signal for that side to confirm it flashes normally.
- If it doesn’t work, turn everything OFF, remove the socket, and re-seat the bulb firmly.
Step 6: Refit trim and repeat on the other side
- Snap the access cover back in place (or re-seat the trim panel).
- Repeat Steps 1–5 on the other rear lamp.
- Replace in pairs for even brightness.
✅ After Repair
- Verify left and right rear turn signals flash at a normal rate.
- Turn on hazards and walk around to confirm both rear turn signals are working.
- Make sure the access covers/trim sit flush so cargo doesn’t snag them.
