🔧 Rear Turn Signal Bulbs - Bulb Replacement

The rear turn signal bulbs sit inside the tail lamp assemblies. You’ll remove the inner trim access panel, unplug the bulb socket, and swap the bulbs one side at a time. Work carefully so you don’t crack the housing or pinch the new bulb.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the lights off and remove the key before starting.
  • Let the bulbs cool down if the lights were recently on.
  • Do not touch the glass part of a halogen bulb with bare fingers.
  • If the cargo area is crowded, clear it before removing the trim panel.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Flat trim tool
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Clean microfiber cloth

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Rear turn signal bulb - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Open the rear liftgate for access to the tail lamp area.
  • If replacing both sides, do one side at a time so you can compare fitment.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the cargo access panel

  • Open the liftgate and move any cargo out of the way.
  • Use a flat trim tool to carefully pop off the rear interior access panel behind the tail lamp.
  • Work slowly to avoid breaking the clips.

Step 2: Remove the bulb socket

  • Reach into the tail lamp opening and locate the turn signal bulb socket.
  • Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand to unlock it, then pull it straight out.
  • If it is tight, use a clean microfiber cloth for a better grip.

Step 3: Replace the bulb

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
  • Push the new bulb in firmly until it seats fully.
  • Use gloves so you don’t transfer oil or dirt to the bulb.

Step 4: Reinstall the socket

  • Line the socket back up with the tail lamp opening.
  • Twist it clockwise by hand until it locks.
  • Make sure it sits snugly and does not wobble.

Step 5: Test the turn signal

  • Turn on the ignition and activate the left and right turn signals one at a time.
  • Confirm the new bulb flashes normally.
  • If the bulb does not light, remove the socket and check the bulb seating.

✅ After Repair

  • Reinstall the interior access panel by pressing it back into place.
  • Check both rear turn signals, hazards, and brake lights.
  • If one side still does not work, inspect the bulb contacts for corrosion or bent terminals.
