🔧 Forte - Rear Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Forte’s rear turn signal bulbs sit in the tail lamp housings and can be replaced from inside the trunk. You’ll remove a small trunk trim access cover, twist the bulb socket out, then swap the bulb.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the car.
- ⚠️ Let bulbs cool before touching; they can be very hot.
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the glass on incandescent bulbs; skin oil can shorten bulb life.

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Open the trunk and clear out cargo so you can work safely.
- Tip: Do one side at a time.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the tail lamp service opening
- Open the trunk.
- On the side you’re replacing, locate the small trim access door/cover behind the tail lamp area.
- Use a trim clip removal tool to pop the cover open. If it’s tight, gently help it with a small flathead screwdriver.
- Use a flashlight to see the bulb sockets clearly.
Step 2: Identify the turn signal bulb socket
- Look for the socket that corresponds to the turn signal in the tail lamp (typically the amber section of the lens).
- If you’re not sure which socket is which, turn the hazard lights ON briefly, then OFF, and watch which area flashes. (Keep hands clear of moving trunk hinges.)
Step 3: Remove the bulb socket
- Grip the socket firmly and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn to unlock it.
- Pull the socket straight out of the tail lamp housing.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (most rear turn bulbs are a wedge-base style).
- Put on nitrile gloves and install the new bulb by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Tip: Match the old bulb’s number exactly.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and trim cover
- Insert the socket back into the tail lamp housing.
- Rotate clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks.
- Reinstall the trunk access cover by pressing it back into place.
Step 6: Repeat on the other side (recommended)
- Repeat Steps 1–5 for the opposite rear turn signal.
- Tip: Replace bulbs in pairs for even brightness.
✅ After Repair
- Turn the ignition ON and test left and right turn signals.
- Turn on hazards and confirm both rear turn signals flash at a normal speed.
- If a signal flashes fast, re-check that the bulb is fully seated and the correct type.
