🔧 Rear Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
The rear turn signal bulbs are accessed from inside the rear tail lamp assemblies. You’ll remove the inner trim access cover, unplug the socket, then swap in the new amber bulbs and test both sides.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Turn the lights off and let the bulbs cool before touching them.
- Keep the ignition off while removing and installing bulb sockets.
- Do not touch the glass on the new bulb with bare fingers; oils can shorten bulb life.
- If your tail lamp uses tight trim clips, work slowly so you do not crack the trim panel.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the rear hatch and access the tail lamp area
- Open the rear hatch fully.
- Use a flashlight to locate the access cover behind each rear tail lamp.
- Some panels have a small trim cover; gently pop it loose with a trim panel tool.
Step 2: Remove the bulb socket
- Reach behind the tail lamp and twist the turn signal bulb socket counterclockwise by hand.
- If it is tight, use a trim panel tool carefully for leverage near the socket base, not on the wires.
- Pull the socket straight out once it unlocks.
Step 3: Replace the bulb
- Remove the old bulb from the socket by pulling it straight out.
- Install the new amber rear turn signal bulb into the socket.
- Make sure the bulb is fully seated.
Step 4: Reinstall the socket
- Align the socket tabs with the tail lamp housing.
- Push the socket in and twist it clockwise until it locks.
- Repeat the same steps on the other side if replacing both bulbs.
Step 5: Test the turn signals
- Turn the ignition on.
- Activate the left and right turn signals one at a time.
- Confirm both rear bulbs flash normally and at the same brightness.
✅ After Repair
- Check that the tail lamp access covers are fully reinstalled.
- Verify the turn signal indicator on the dash is not flashing faster than normal.
- If one side still does not work, inspect the socket for corrosion or a broken contact.
