🔧 Soul - Rear Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Soul’s rear turn signal bulbs sit inside the rear tail lamp assemblies. To replace them, you’ll remove the tail lamp from the body, twist out the turn-signal bulb socket, and install new bulbs without touching the glass.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the lights OFF and remove the key before starting.
- ⚠️ Let bulbs cool down first; they can be hot.
- ⚠️ Wear gloves and don’t touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers.
- ⚠️ Support the lamp as you pull it out so it doesn’t scratch paint.

You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Safety glasses
- Nitrile gloves

- Phillips #2 screwdriver
- 10mm socket
- 1/4" ratchet
- Torque wrench (in-lb or small Nm range)
- Clean microfiber towel
🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Rear turn signal bulb (amber) - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2
- Dielectric grease - Qty: 1
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park your Soul on level ground and shift to Park.
- Turn the light switch to OFF and remove the key.
- Open the rear hatch for access to the lamp fasteners.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the hatch and access the tail lamp fasteners
- Open the hatch and stand at the rear corner you’re working on.
- If there’s a small interior access cover near the lamp fasteners, gently pop it open using the trim panel removal tool. Work slowly to avoid breaking clips.
Step 2: Remove the tail lamp mounting fasteners
- Remove the mounting screws/bolts using a Phillips #2 screwdriver or 10mm socket with a 1/4" ratchet (your lamp may use either style).
- Set the fasteners aside on a clean microfiber towel so they don’t get lost.
Step 3: Pull the tail lamp assembly straight back
- With fasteners removed, hold the lamp with both hands and pull it straight rearward (away from the vehicle body).
- If it feels stuck, wiggle gently while pulling straight back. Do not pry against painted surfaces with metal tools.
Step 4: Remove the rear turn signal bulb socket
- Locate the turn signal bulb socket on the back of the lamp assembly (the socket typically has a twist-lock).
- Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand and pull it out.
- If your fingers can’t grip it, use nitrile gloves for better traction.
Step 5: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (no twisting).
- Install the new rear turn signal bulb (amber) by pushing it straight in until fully seated.
- Apply a very small amount of dielectric grease to the socket seal area (not on the bulb glass).
Step 6: Reinstall the socket and test
- Insert the socket into the lamp and twist clockwise until it locks.
- Before mounting the lamp back on, turn the ignition to ON and test the rear turn signal for that side.
- If it doesn’t work, turn ignition OFF, remove the socket, and re-seat the bulb and socket.
Step 7: Reinstall the tail lamp assembly
- Line up the lamp locating pins/clips with the body and push the lamp straight forward until it seats flush.
- Reinstall the mounting fasteners using the 10mm socket and 1/4" ratchet or Phillips #2 screwdriver.
- Tighten evenly: Torque to 7 Nm (62 in-lbs).
- Reinstall any access cover using the trim panel removal tool (press until it snaps in).
Step 8: Repeat on the other side
- Replace the other rear turn signal bulb the same way. Replacing in pairs keeps brightness even.
âś… After Repair
- Test both turn signals, hazards, and brake lights.
- Confirm the lamp sits flush with the body and there are no gaps.
- If you see moisture inside the lamp later, re-check that the socket is fully locked and the seal is clean.
