🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Rear turn signal bulb (7440A amber) - Qty: 2
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Open the rear liftgate for access and lighting.
- Have a small container ready so you don’t lose the nuts.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the access panels in the cargo area
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- On the side you’re working on, use a trim panel removal tool (a plastic pry tool that pops clips without scratching) to open/remove the small interior access cover behind the tail lamp area.
Step 2: Remove the tail lamp retaining nuts
- Use a 10mm socket, 1/4" drive ratchet, and 6" socket extension to remove the two 10mm nuts holding the tail lamp.
- Set the nuts aside where they won’t roll away.
Step 3: Pull the tail lamp assembly off the body
- Grab the tail lamp with both hands and pull it straight rearward.
- If it’s stuck on the alignment pins, gently wiggle while pulling—do not pry on the painted body.
- Pull straight back to avoid breaking pins.
Step 4: Remove the rear turn signal bulb socket
- Find the turn signal socket on the back of the lamp assembly (it’s the socket for the amber bulb).
- Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand to unlock it, then pull it out.
Step 5: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket. If it’s tight, use needle-nose pliers gently.
- Install the new 7440A amber bulb by pushing it straight in until fully seated.
- Reinstall the socket into the lamp and twist clockwise to lock.
Step 6: Reinstall the tail lamp assembly
- Line up the lamp’s guide pins with the body holes, then push the lamp straight in until it seats flush.
- Install the two nuts using the 10mm socket, ratchet, and extension.
- Torque to 5 N·m (4 ft-lbs).
- Snap the interior access cover back into place using the trim panel removal tool to align clips if needed.
Step 7: Repeat on the other side
- Do the same steps for the other rear turn signal so brightness and color match.
âś… After Repair
- Turn ignition to ON and test: left signal, right signal, and hazards.
- Verify the lamp is seated evenly and not loose.
- If the turn signal flashes fast, recheck bulb seating and socket lock.
