• Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
• Open the trunk and remove any cargo so you can access the trunk liner easily.
• Replace bulbs in pairs for even brightness.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Confirm which bulb you’re replacing

• Turn the hazard lights ON briefly (engine off is fine) and walk behind the car to confirm which side is out.
• Turn the hazards OFF, then open the trunk.
• Use a flashlight to locate the back side of the tail lamp area on the failed side.

Step 2: Pull back the trunk liner to reach the tail lamp socket

• Use a trim clip removal tool to pop out the plastic push-clips holding the trunk liner near the tail lamp.
• If your liner has a small access door or cover, remove it using a Phillips screwdriver or your trim clip removal tool (varies by liner style).
• Fold the liner back enough to see the bulb sockets on the tail lamp.

Step 3: Remove the rear turn signal bulb socket

• Identify the turn signal socket (it’s the one that aligns with the amber turn signal area of the lens).
• Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn, then pull it straight out.
• If it’s tight, wiggle gently—don’t yank wires.

Step 4: Replace the bulb

• Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
• Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
• Push the new 7440 amber bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.

Step 5: Reinstall the socket and test

• Insert the socket back into the tail lamp housing.
• Twist clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks in place.
• Turn the hazards ON to confirm the bulb flashes normally.

Step 6: Reinstall the trunk liner

• Reposition the liner and reinstall the clips using your hand and the trim clip removal tool as needed.
• If any clip is damaged or won’t hold, replace it with the new trunk trim clips.

• Confirm the flash rate is normal (a fast flash usually means a bulb is still out).
• Make sure the trunk liner is secured so it won’t rattle.
