🔧 Tucson - Rear Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Tucson’s rear turn signal uses a replaceable bulb in the rear lamp assembly. The job is mostly careful trim/lamp handling so you don’t crack the lens or break the locating pins.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Turn the ignition OFF and set the parking brake before starting.
- Let bulbs cool first; they can be hot right after use.
- Do not touch the new bulb’s glass with bare fingers; oil can shorten bulb life.
- Support the lamp as you remove it so it doesn’t drop and crack.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Phillips screwdriver #2
- Plastic trim removal tool set
- Clean nitrile gloves
- Flashlight

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Open the liftgate for access to the rear lamp fasteners.
- Confirm the symptom (left or right) by switching on the hazard lights with the ignition ON, then turn ignition OFF before disassembly.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the rear lamp fasteners
- Open the liftgate.
- Locate the rear lamp screws on the inboard edge of the lamp (the side closest to the liftgate opening).
- Use a flashlight to clearly see the screw heads.
Step 2: Remove the rear lamp assembly (common method)
- Use a Phillips screwdriver #2 to remove the lamp retaining screws.
- Gently work a plastic trim removal tool set behind the lamp edge and pull the lamp straight rearward to release the locating pins.
- Pull straight back, not outward.
- If it feels stuck, re-check that all screws are fully removed before pulling harder.
Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Support the lamp with one hand.
- Find the turn signal bulb socket on the back of the lamp.
- Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand and pull it out of the lamp.
- If space is tight, use a flashlight to confirm you’re turning the correct socket.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Put on clean nitrile gloves.
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket by hand.
- Push the new bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Do not touch the bulb glass with bare skin.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and lamp
- Insert the socket back into the lamp and twist clockwise by hand until it stops.
- Line up the lamp locating pins with the body holes, then push the lamp straight inward until it seats flush.
- Reinstall the screws using a Phillips screwdriver #2 and tighten snug.
- Torque: No reliable published spec for this fastener in this context; tighten snug (do not overtighten).
Step 6: Alternate access method (if your Tucson has an interior access cover)
- If you see a small access panel behind the lamp area inside the cargo trim, use a plastic trim removal tool set to carefully pop the cover open.
- Reach in and twist the turn signal socket counterclockwise by hand, then replace the bulb as in Step 4.
- Reinstall the access cover by pressing it back into place.
âś… After Repair
- Turn ignition ON and test left/right turn signals and hazard lights.
- Verify the blink rate is normal (a fast blink usually means a bulb still isn’t working).
- Confirm the lamp sits flush and doesn’t wiggle.
