šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Remove the tail lamp assembly
- Open the rear doors so you can see the tail lamp mounting screws.
- Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the screws holding the tail lamp to the body.
- Gently pull the tail lamp straight back to release it from the locating pins.
- If it feels stuck, use a small flat-head screwdriver carefully at the edge to help start it moving. Go slow to avoid cracking plastic.
Step 2: Identify the turn-signal bulb socket
- Look at the bulb sockets on the back of the tail lamp.
- The rear turn signal on your E-150 is typically the same bulb as the brake light (a dual-filament bulb).
- Twist one socket at a time (about 1/4 turn) by hand and pull it out to find the correct one.
Step 3: Remove the old bulb
- Hold the socket firmly and pull the bulb straight out by hand.
- If itās stubborn, use the clean shop towel to improve grip and pull straight (donāt twist unless the bulb base design requires it).
- Check the bulb number printed on the base and match it to the replacement bulb to avoid installing the wrong type.
Step 4: Install the new bulb
- Put on nitrile gloves (or hold the bulb with the clean shop towel) and press the new bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Apply a very light smear of dielectric grease to the socket seal area if it looks dry (donāt pack the socket full).
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and tail lamp
- Insert the socket back into the tail lamp and twist by hand until it locks.
- Line up the tail lamp locating pins and push the lamp straight into place.
- Reinstall the screws using the Phillips #2 screwdriver and tighten snug. Snug is enoughādonāt overtighten.
ā After Repair
- Turn the key to RUN and test: right turn, left turn, hazards, and brake lights.
- If the turn signal blinks fast, that usually means a bulb is out or the wrong bulb type is installedārecheck seating and bulb number.
