š§ Sonata - Rear Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Sonataās rear turn signal bulbs sit inside the rear lamp assemblies. Replacement is usually done from inside the trunk by twisting out a bulb socket, then swapping the bulb.
If your turn signal is in the trunk-lid lamp on your Sonata, access is slightly different than if itās in the quarter-panel lampāI'll show both paths.

š Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Open the trunk and remove loose items so you can see the side trunk liner clearly.
- Tip: Take a quick photo before unplugging anything.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm which rear lamp contains the turn signal
- Turn the hazard lights ON briefly, then OFF (do not leave them on while your hands are in the lamp area).
- Watch the rear of the car to see where the amber/blinking turn signal is located: trunk lid lamp or quarter-panel lamp.
- Use flashlight to identify the correct bulb socket from inside the trunk.
Step 2: Access the lamp from inside the trunk
- Use a trim clip removal tool to pop out the plastic push-clips holding the trunk side liner/access flap.
- If equipped with an access door, open it; otherwise gently peel the liner back by hand.
Step 3A: Replace bulb (common method: socket twist-out from inside trunk)
- Locate the turn-signal bulb socket (usually the socket that points straight into the lamp housing).
- Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn, then pull it straight out.
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (some are a push-and-twist style; if it wonāt pull out, try a gentle twist while pulling).
- Install the new bulb fully into the socket (match the base style to the old one).
- Reinsert the socket into the lamp and rotate clockwise to lock.
Step 3B: If your turn signal is not a simple twist-out (lamp removal path)
- From inside the trunk, locate the lamp retaining nuts/fasteners behind the lamp.
- Use a 10mm socket with a 1/4" ratchet to remove the lamp retaining nuts.
- Support the lamp with one hand, then carefully pull the lamp straight outward (do not pry hard; alignment pins hold it).
- Disconnect the electrical connector by pressing the lock tab (use a Phillips screwdriver only if needed to gently help the tabādonāt break it).
- Remove the turn-signal bulb socket from the lamp (counterclockwise), swap the bulb, then reinstall the socket.
- Reinstall the lamp, making sure the alignment pins seat correctly.
- Reinstall the nuts using the 10mm socket, then Torque to 7 Nm (62 in-lbs) using a small torque wrench (inch-pound capable).
Step 4: Reinstall trunk trim
- Reposition the trunk liner.
- Reinstall the push-clips by pressing them in by hand; use the trim clip removal tool to align holes if needed.
ā After Repair
- Turn hazards ON and confirm the repaired side blinks normally (not fast).
- Confirm the bulb socket is fully seated and not loose (a loose socket can cause intermittent operation).
- If the new bulb doesnāt light, flip it 180° only if itās a wedge-style bulb; if itās a bayonet-style, re-check seating and the connector.
